Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Ice and candy Boba and Milk Tea shop

Story time with Ice and candy Suriname

" Ice and candy Suriname only place that serves A La ice candy"
A La Ice Candy, signature drink

I have found a new spot that is absolutely gorgeous when it comes to its interior.  And the best part is the desserts they serve are a delight to my taste buds.  Ice and Candy Suriname is a small shop located in the South Square Plaza complex in Paramaribo.  The South Square Plaza is located on the corner of the Verlengde Gemenelandsweg and Riekelaan.  If you have trouble finding Ice and candy Suriname, be sure to look it up on Google maps.  On Monday they are closed, but from Tuesday to Sunday they are open from 10:00 am to 22:30 pm.  I must warn you their drinks are highly addictive, I have been hooked on the place ever since I found it. Allow me the honor to introduce you to Ice and Candy Suriname.

What is Ice and Candy Suriname?

Fruit Tea, very refreshing.

Kelly Lau, daughter of the owner was kind enough to grant me an interview despite her busy schedule.  Most of the time you will find her working within the restaurants on the complex.   Seated in the modern designed Ice and candy dessert shop Kelly Lau explained to me how Ice and Candy Suriname came to exist. "  The reason why we started with Ice and candy Suriname is that we wanted to add a dessert spot on the complex. We already have Chinese food located on the complex ( Lucky Twins) and clients can visit the XO lounge when they want to chill and order a steak at the same time.  Ice and Candy were supposed to be more focused on children. The entire complex started about two years ago.  All the names were then already decided but through the years we've noticed that there is something we can do with milk tea. That's how we decided to open a beverage business. We changed the concept but the name stayed the same.  A lot of people visit the store and expect something else. Like homemade Ice cream or something like that.  We decided to change the concept because we observed what was trending in Suriname at the moment.  We noticed a trend in beverage companies and decided to adapt our concept towards that trend.  We didn't have a grand opening for it, but up until now, it's going well.  We didn't even publish the fact that we opened. That's the reason why it isn't really famous. Most people that visit the complex come for XO, Juicy or Lucky twins without knowing that Ice and Candy are located in the same complex.  We opened the doors of Ice and Candy Suriname in February. Everyone is welcome to visit the shop.

" Classic bubble milk tea from Ice candy Suriname"
 Classic bubble Milk Tea
Most of the recipes are from Hong Kong, China.  we have a special beverage chef and he makes authentic Chinese desserts and beverages. Our chef is trained in making desserts and beverages. He finished his training in China after a few years. Then he built up experience working for a cafe in Hong Kong. So he is skilled in what he does. Even the products we use to make our beverages are imported from China. Most of the tea sorts like Matcha tea are already sold out." I asked Kelly what the top three recommended desserts on the menu are? " I mostly recommend the fruit tea for people who don't like milk.  The Passion fruit pineapple is also delicious and the classic bubble milk tea.  We also sell sweets and cakes. We have appetizers like the Chicken lollipop,  garlic wings they are some of our best sellers. It depends because some Surinamese people don't like certain things. But then you have Chinese customers who do like pudding.  It depends on your preference in taste. In the beginning, we had to keep adapting our taste to find out what the Surinamese people like.  Our chef from China wasn't so familiar with what the people in Suriname find tasty. So we had to explain to him that Surinamese people prefer to use more sugar. We are also busy with a new project, we are planning on rebuilding so that we can sell authentic Hong Kong desserts like buns, etc.  When it comes to dessert Kelly recommends the A la Ice candy with 5 toppings. I tried it out and quickly found out why it's a must-try when visiting Ice and Candy Suriname. A la Ice and Candy is a signature dessert of Ice and Candy Suriname. That is why this is the only place where you will be able to find it.  Highly impressed by the interior decoration I asked Kelly what inspired the design of Ice and Candy Suriname? " My father likes investing in the rustic and modern interior because the client should feel right at home when visiting.  If you look at the XO lounge and Juicy you will also notice that we invested a lot of money into our decor and furniture. We use excellent quality so that our customers feel comfortable. We implement a lot of wood into our interior decoration. "

South square Plaza also offers a unique service in Suriname. When you are in Lucky twins you can order a beverage from Ice and Candy Suriname or even a steak from Juicy. The companies located in South square Plaza interact well with each other.  If you want to find out more about Ice and Candy Suriname be sure to visit their Instagram page. The pictures will be enough to make you drool until you try one. Of course, I have some recommendations of my own. Since I am hooked on Ice and candy I have tried most of their desserts myself. When visiting be sure to try out the Oreo Milk tea and Peach Oolong with a cream cheese topping.  Dare to try it and you will have no regrets.
