Tapas Night At Restaurant Tangelo In Paramaribo

Tapas Night At Restaurant Tangelo In Paramaribo Fawaka ( It means "How are you?" In the local sranang tongo language spoken in Suriname.), my Story Time friends! It feels great to be back with another foodie and travel adventure in Paramaribo. Especially since I've been posting more often on my blog. Being able to share my adventures with you guys allows me to explore and express my creativity. It's almost as if my blog has become an online magazine!😍I always wanted to run a magazine. This was a wish of mine during my teen years when I just started designing. Back then it was Shachem Designs and I got to learn from executing all the projects that I received. A lot of mistakes were made, but thanks to those mistakes I gained wisdom. I'm the kind of person that's not afraid to fail. When I used to design menus I went through my dad's expensive ink cartridges in record time. 😅😂Despite my designs not coming out quite right, he wouldn't let me quit. In

Checking Into Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp

Checking Into Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp Fawaka,  ( "How are you?" in local sranang tongo language) my Story Time friends! I am happy to be writing to you again from warm tropical Suriname! In this Story Time travel episode, we're diving deeper into what it's like to stay at Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp. It was a hot day when we went and because it was the summer vacation I decided to take my cousins along with me on this travel adventure. Because we were planning to stay the night with a group they assigned us a police house. These police houses are the largest type of accommodations that you can rent at Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp.  Our hotel house as I'll call it has two floors. The master floor has a master bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, storage area with a fridge. When you book your stay at Hotel Frederiksdorp in Suriname, you get a complimentary bottle of water in your fridge. Barely enough to make a couple of cups of coffee to get through the nig

Traveling To Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp In Commewijne

Traveling To Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp In Commewijne Hello, Story Time friends tuning in from all over the world! I am back with another travel adventure!👀😎It feels so good to be writing to you again from warm tropical Suriname. This time we are going to district Commewijne again! To get to our destination we cross the Wijdenbosch Brug (bridge) and head towards Marienburg. I visited Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp with my cousins. Plantage means plantation in English. From my previous   Story Time episode we already learned a bit about the history of Plantage Frederiksdorp and what life was like in Suriname during the slave trade. This historical site has now become a hotel that hosts tours and activities. To get to the hotel you have to take a boat in Marienburg. I haven't been to this place in years. But I do remember that when I worked as a Caricom Youth Officer I scouted out this entire area for the Young Men Take Responsibility project. Back then it was my responsibility

Haunted Plantation

Midnight Creeps: Haunted Plantation Hello friends, how have you been? We're already in October! Gasp, time does go by fast.😏 It's the month of Halloween and I've finally got to posting this episode of Midnight Creeps on my blog. As you know we're counting down Halloween with a creepy story each Friday night at Midnight! Welcome to episode 5 called " Haunted Plantation". This Story Time episode is inspired by my visit to plantation Frederiksdorp in Commewijne. On this plantation, many cruel things happened, and the history tour I took only inspired my creativity. I already launched episode 6 of Midnight Creeps, but unfortunately, my audio didn't come out correctly during that livestream. I'll have to redo that one, and it's a real pity because that one was the best so far. It takes us on an adventure to the realm of the King of Halloween Town. But at least you guys get to enjoy episode 5 of Midnight Creeps. If you are new to my Story Time blog,

Carnival In Suriname

Carnival In Suriname Hello, my Story Time friends! How are you guys doing? You have no idea how happy I am to finally be able to share this video with you! With my local internet provider Telesur, uploading the carnival vlog I made was a struggle!😥A very stressful one too! But I'm not someone that gives up! After my last attempt, it only took me 24 hours to finally upload my video without it failing.😏Behind the scenes blogger struggles, that some people don't see. I put a lot of effort and work into creating Story Time and so far I'm proud of the result. In Suriname, we have our own form of Carnival. It's called the Avond Vierdaagse and this event is held annually. I remember watching my first few carnivals as a little girl. 😤I guess the grown-ups weren't kidding when they said time goes by fast. Avond Vier Daagse is a Dutch name that refers to the 4 days and nights that the carnival is held. Because of Covid, we didn't have Carnival for a long time. Remem

Sip&Tea Lelydorp

Sip & Tea Lelydorp Hello friends, we are in Lelydorp again! In case you haven't checked out my previous Lelydorp foodie and travel adventures, you can look them up in the search bar or under the travel and foodie label. For today's adventure, I am taking you to a new milk tea and boba shop in Suriname. Sip& Tea is located in the midtown mall Lelydorp, where Daily food used to be. I like the fact that they have a lot of unique options on their menu. At Sip & Tea they also let you decide how sweet your drink is. I got the Hershey milk tea with pudding in it. It was delicious and tasted like the real Hershey Candy bar. The pudding at the bottom of my cup helped balance the chocolate flavor so that it wasn't too overwhelming. We also tried the sour green apple with watermelon jelly! It's flavors were mindblowing and I'd certainly recommend this one if you are a sour candy lover. The sour green apple flavor reminds me of a lolipop. I felt lik

Chick&Fries Suriname

Chick & Fries Suriname Hello Story Time friends, my U.F.O. is back to zap another foodie and travel adventure straight into your inbox! If you are new here, don't forget to subscribe and follow my blog. 👽👾🛸Thank you for all the support on my channels! Today I am taking you guys on a foodie trip in Suriname. This time we are visiting a Surinamese food chain called Chick & Fries. The fastfood restaurant I visited is located at the Indira Gandhi weg. I noticed that they sell a lot of Fernandes products. They also had pastries, cakes and other baked goods on display. But some of them just didn't look that fresh. We tried their chicken burger and fried chicken. The price for their food is reasonable! The burger was average but not bad for the money that you pay. What I did like was their spicy fried chicken! It surprised me how good the chicken tasted. Are you planning on going on your own food travels soon? Check out Expedia! As an affiliated partner I earn a commissio

History Tour At Plantation Frederiksdorp

History Tour At plantation Frederiksdorp Hello my dearest Story Time friends, I am back with more travel adventures! This time I am writing to you about a hotel and resort located in Commewijne. Of course this isn't any ordinary hotel! Plantage Frederiksdorp ( Plantage means plantation in English) has a dark history! Suriname used to be a colony that the Dutch, Britisch, Portuguese and French fought over for a long time. We were a lucrative colony! Suriname had coffee, cocoa, sugar and cotton plantations that exported their products to the Europeans. Because of the plantation businesses sprouting through out this South American country, a lot of African slaves were imported by the West Indian Company. Taken away from their homes against their will they were placed on the auction blocks for the rich Surinamese plantation owners to bid on. Suriname was known as one of the countries with the cruelest slave masters! The dutch didn't play around with their torture games. Plantatio
