Today, we are taking a trip down memory lane and heading back to the beautiful district of Commewijne! 🌿 As you might remember from my previous blog posts, I’ve featured the legendary Warung Shaqien before. But hold onto your seats, because things have changed—and for the better! 💨
A Cool Upgrade ❄️
You know how the Surinamese sun likes to turn up the heat? Well, Warung Shaqien has officially leveled up with new indoor AC dining! It is the perfect sanctuary to escape the tropical blaze while digging into some classic Javanese comfort food. 🍜
The Feast 🍱
We kept it traditional with some of my absolute favorites—the very same dishes you’ve seen during my many Story Time transmissions:
Long Tong Tahoe: Perfectly textured and seasoned. 🍢
Saoto Soup with Ketjap: The ultimate soul-soother. 🥣
I also decided to try their slushie dawet. While I love a good experiment, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me—the consistency just didn’t balance well with the intensity of the outside heat this time around. But hey, that’s the adventure of food blogging! 🍹🤷♂️
Sailing Through Life ⛵
This transmission is being zapped to you straight from my backlog. Yes, friends, we will get there someday! Life has a way of pulling us through some rough sailings, but we always survive. 🌊 Being Surinamese is all about resilience and knowing how to adapt to any change or circumstance that comes our way.
Without pure determination fueling me, I wouldn't be able to sneak these moments in to share our local travel and foodie adventures with you. We’ll keep sailing forward aboard the Story Time spaceship—sometimes going back in time, sometimes anticipating the future, all while juggling the beautiful chaos of the present. 🪐
