A Gladiator's Feast: Rico's Foodtruck

A Gladiator's Feast: Rico's Foodtruck Hello fellow foodies! Welcome back to another culinary adventure. πŸ˜πŸ˜€This time, our food hunt takes us to Rico's A Gladiator Foodtruck , located at Wilhelminastraat 40 in Paramaribo. Rico's serves up a delicious array of burgers, shoarmas, and wraps. πŸ” We paid them a visit on a typically hot Paramaribo night, and my friend Dev-Lin was our official taste-tester for the evening. He got to try their cheeseburger and, after we finished filming, he couldn't stop joking about how Rico's was going to "take all his money." Giving it a high-praise rating of 11 out of 10, Dev-Lin's wallet surrendered as his stomach vowed to try every single item on their menu.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… One thing to keep in mind is that Rico's isn't open every day. So, before you head over, be sure to check their Facebook page for their current opening hours. Don't drool too much while watching our yummy food adventure. πŸ˜‹πŸ€€Have fun, and until...

Checking Into Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp

 Checking Into Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp

"Shachem Lieuw and her cousin at the swimming pool of Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp"

Fawaka,  ( "How are you?" in local Sranang Tongo language), my Story Time friends! I am pleased to be writing to you again from the warm, tropical island of Suriname! In this Story Time travel episode, we're diving deeper into what it's like to stay at Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp. It was a hot day when we went, and because it was summer vacation, I decided to take my cousins along with me on this travel adventure. Because we were planning to stay the night with a group, they assigned us a police station. These police houses are the most significant type of accommodations that you can rent at Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp. The house we booked has two floors. The master floor features a master bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, and a storage area with a fridge. When you book your stay at Hotel Frederiksdorp in Suriname, you get a complimentary bottle of water in your fridge. Barely enough to make a couple of cups of coffee to get through the night. They do warn you that you can't drink the water that comes from the tap. When I took a shower, I discovered why. The water had a funky smell. Somehow, it smelled like I was showering with water from the gutter. That's saying something from someone who has lived the boytie life in Commewijne! Accessing water is always a problem in this district. That's something I remember since my early childhood years. In my case, my grandparents would collect rainwater, and we'd use that to bathe. Rainwater would have been plentiful in this case! Because even rain water doesn't have that funky smell. But other than that, the place was beautiful! Despite the house being in its authentic design from the time when the slave trade was at its peak in Suriname, I still found the bed and chairs to be comfortable. It's a chilling thought to consider all the horrors that occurred on this property just a few hundred years ago. I appreciate the beauty of our Surinamese flora and fauna, which can be clearly observed through the windows of our accommodation. I remember taking a few glances outside the window and seeing white birds sitting on top of tree branches. Aside from the smelly water, I did appreciate the complimentary shower gels provided in the bathroom. The papaya one smells delicious. On the second floor, we have the attic, which contains three bedrooms. Even from these windows, we had a stunning view of the plantation at Frederiksdorp. The beautiful scenery in front of my eyes made me realize why the slave masters probably chose this property. My mind figured out that setting up the infrastructure of this plantation during its glory days required a lot of thought. Whoever laid out the design of this plantation studied what he was going to do. They took the river and the environment into consideration. The attic was quite remarkable, and it had lights hidden in various spots. There were enough electrical outlets available. Only the WiFi in your house is slower. They could definitely invest in a WiFi booster or extender to ensure that all of their guests have proper internet access. Unfortunately, the rooms didn't have a TV! The kids wanted to keep themselves entertained with a movie, and I, as a tech-free dad, came prepared with my HDMI cable. We made it a fun experience and went exploring instead of sitting behind a screen. We visited Johan and Margaretha, that's just a 1km walk from this resort. When you visit this nearby plantation, you'll meet more locals. There are stores and restaurants there, just in case you want to save a penny here and there. However, keep in mind that these Supermarkets only sell the basics. They don't have a big assortment compared to the stores in the City or on the other side of the river in Commewijne. For that exploring adventure on one of Suriname's popular plantations, you'll have to subscribe to my Story Time blog! Don't forget to jump onto that Story Time U.F.O. when you see it appear on your screen. πŸ‘½πŸ‘ΎπŸ›Έ I've created a vlog about our stay at Hotel Plantage Frederiksdorp in Suriname. In my next episode, I'll tell you guys what breakfast was like. At this hotel, breakfast is included in your stay. But was it worth it? We'll find out in the next edition. A coffee maker is available in the house. You can use that to boil your own water. For now, enjoy this video, and feel free to share it with your friends.πŸ’“ Thank you guys for supporting my Story Time channels! Are you planning on going on your own travel adventures?
