Get ready for a delicious adventure because today we're jet-setting (virtually, for now!) to Paramaribo, Suriname, and diving headfirst into a cafe that's a true hidden gem: Simply Yummy Suriname ! If you're looking for unique eats, a cozy atmosphere, and an all-around delightful experience, then you absolutely have to add this spot to your travel foodie bucket list.😋😍 Imagine stepping into a cafe that feels less like a bustling eatery and more like a serene, sun-drenched library. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the elegant white interior, the gentle murmur of a charming fountain, and shelves upon shelves of books creating an atmosphere that just screams cozy and inviting. There's even a special dining area with a large table, perfect for groups and intimate gatherings. And for an extra touch of cuteness, a fluffy teddy bear sits on a couch, with a clever "window...

 Midnight Creeps: Haunted Plantation

"Illustration of Surinamese slaves working on a sugar plantation"

Hello, friends. How have you been? We're already in October! Gasp, time does go by fast.😏 It's the month of Halloween, and I've finally gotten to posting this episode of Midnight Creeps on my blog.
As you know, we're counting down Halloween with a creepy story each Friday night at Midnight! Welcome to episode 5 called " Haunted Plantation". This Story Time episode is inspired by my visit to the plantation Frederiksdorp in Commewijne. On this plantation, many cruel things happened, and the history tour I took only inspired my creativity. I already launched episode 6 of Midnight Creeps, but unfortunately, my audio didn't come out correctly during that livestream. I'll have to redo that one, and it's a real pity because that one was the best so far. It takes us on an adventure to the realm of the King of Halloween Town. At least you get to enjoy episode 5 of Midnight Creeps. If you are new to my Story Time blog, make sure to subscribe or follow my blog! That way, you'll be the first to receive my exclusive content in your inbox. Today isMaroonn Day in Suriname.
On this day, we celebrate our Maroon brothers and sisters. Eons ago, they fled the plantations in search of freedom, deep within the beating heart of the Amazon rainforest. They didn't have an easy life and had to hide from the Redi Musu's and other armies sent to hunt them down. It was a risk that they were willing to take to be free from the reign of their cruel plantation masters. In the eyes of the wealthy plantation owners, they were nothing but stock. Now their descendants are still living in Suriname thanks to the bravery of their ancestors. I wish all Surinamese people a happy Maroon Day! May you experience happiness and abundance as you build your community.
"Marroon day being celebrated in Suriname illustration"

This illustration was inspired by my time spent in the Maroon Villages of Suriname. I got to learn their culture, traditions, and their lifestyle. The best thing about being in Suriname is that each time I travel to another part of the country, it's like visiting a whole new world. Different people, cultures, and traditions come together to share love under one flag. But that might be for another Story Time episode!
👽👾🛸 Have fun watching my video and see you at next week's episode of Midnight Creeps. I'll be waiting for you with more stories from right here in tropical Suriname.💓
