I tried wood seal carving!

  Hold on to your space seats, because the story time U.F.O. is back at it again, zapping fresh stories straight from the mothership into your inbox! 🛸 If you’ve been following my blog or my ShachemLieuw YouTube channel for a while, you probably already know I’ve been deep-diving into learning Mandarin and exploring more about my Chinese heritage. Well, my latest mission involved signing up for a wood seal carving class, and I liked it so much that I’ve officially decided to purchase a wood seal carving kit and turn this into a permanent hobby! 🧰✍️ Fun plot twist: we didn't actually work with real wood. We got to practice on erasers! But it was still super fun learning all the traditional carving techniques. (For those wondering, the Chinese carving knife used for this is called an intou or bidao —often referred to as an iron pen or a graver!) Welcome back, Story Time friends! Today, your Story Time U.F.O. is landing in the district of Wanica. Gas station food isn't an unknown concept in the world. In Suriname, we have our own popular gas station food hot spots. Because of our small population, ours aren't as big compared to the ones you can find abroad. One of the popular gas stations in Suriname for purchasing food and snacks is Rock Oil. They have a service station located on the Magentakanaalweg. Just as is the case at other Rock Oil service stations, this one also offers food for sale. In the vlog I made, I'm taking you along for breakfast. This Rock Oil doesn't have as many options as the one in the city. But you can still order burgers, fried food, bread, and pasta from their menu. I ordered a shrimp sandwich with a cappuccino. Stew got himself bread with shredded chicken and a cup of French Vanilla bean coffee. They also sell various types of oils for your car's engine. Outside of the Service Station, they placed benches where you can peacefully enjoy your meal. We took that opportunity to dive straight into our breakfast. I enjoyed my bread with shrimp and thought that it was about average. But Stew didn't like his shredded chicken. The breads that they use are toasted. Press play to join us in this foodie episode.
