I tried wood seal carving!

Hold on to your space seats, because the story time U.F.O. is back at it again, zapping fresh stories straight from the mothership into your inbox! 🛸 If you’ve been following my blog or my ShachemLieuw YouTube channel for a while, you probably already know I’ve been deep-diving into learning Mandarin and exploring more about my Chinese heritage. Well, my latest mission involved signing up for a wood seal carving class, and I liked it so much that I’ve officially decided to purchase a wood seal carving kit and turn this into a permanent hobby! 🧰✍️ Fun plot twist: we didn't actually work with real wood. We got to practice on erasers! But it was still super fun learning all the traditional carving techniques. (For those wondering, the Chinese carving knife used for this is called an intou or bidao —often referred to as an iron pen or a graver!) The class went pretty in-depth about the history of seal carving in China. Historically, seals (or chops) served as powerful credential...

" Bucky The Talking Horse And The Farmer Encounter A UFO"

Hello, friends and fellow story lovers!

It's Shachem Lieuw here, and I'm so excited to share a piece of my heart with you.         A story I’ve been nurturing for a while now. It all started with a simple question: What if a horse could talk? What kind of secrets would he keep, and what kind of adventures would he find?

That's how I first created Bucky the Talking Horse.

A Secret That Couldn’t Be Kept

Bucky is a horse with a big secret, but he’s not just any horse. He’s a friend, a confidant, and an incredible listener. In the beginning, Bucky kept his ability to talk a secret, whinnying and neighing just like the other horses. But when his friend, the kind-hearted farmer Mr. Henderson, needed a helping hand (or hoof!), Bucky knew he had to speak up. This moment of courage not only helped his friend but also sparked an incredible friendship that became the very heart of the story.

The Power of Listening

One of the most magical parts of writing Bucky’s adventures was exploring the idea of listening with more than just your ears. Bucky, with his unique senses, hears things others can’t. The mournful sigh of a lost Wisp, the ancient stories whispered by the wind, and the quiet hum of a magical plant. His ability to truly listen is what leads him and his friends, Mr. Henderson and two curious children, Lily and Tom, on a journey to revive the forgotten Whispering Woods Festival. It’s a powerful reminder that if we just tune in, the world is full of hidden wonders.

A Community Forged in Friendship

As the story grew, so did the world of the Whispering Woods. It became a place where animals and people came together, where a glowing plant born of gratitude became a magical "post office" for the creatures of the forest. The festival, the shared stories, and the quiet moments of peace under the starlight all became a testament to what can be built when we work together.

The final chapter, with the arrival of a lost visitor from the stars, was a personal favorite to write. It’s a wonderful symbol of how kindness and friendship can transcend language, distance, and even species.

I poured so much love into Bucky's world, and I truly believe that his story is for anyone who has ever felt a little different, for anyone who loves a good adventure, and for anyone who knows that true magic lies in the bonds we share.

I hope you’ll join Bucky, Mr. Henderson, Lily, and Tom on their journey. The Whispering Woods is waiting for you!

Happy reading,

Shachem Lieuw
