A New Chapter: The Return of Story Time

Hello, Blog Readers! It’s been a while, and I'm so glad to be back. I started this blog when I was very young as a way to express myself through poetry, a place where I could let my emotions flow freely. I’ve come a long way since then.

My native language is Dutch, and I live in a small South American country known for its wonderful tropical rainforest. My home is often called the "heart of the Amazon Rainforest," and while it may not be perfect, it's where my family, friends, and loved ones live.

A Journey of Empathy and Connection

Growing up, I always wanted to help people in any way I could. It's a fundamental part of who I am. I started doing social work at a young age and never really stopped. I learned the hard way that the world isn't always kind, but I also learned that following your heart truly pays off. It gives me an inner balance that money and other things can't buy.

As a kid, I was often bullied for being quiet. It's a part of my past that I don't enjoy revisiting, but doing social work taught me how to be more interactive. When I was 14, I worked as a junior peer counselor, which involved a lot of coaching. I also met many kids who were dealing with things tougher than I could ever imagine. The skills I learned and developed through coaching and social work made me the go-to person for my friends. If anyone had a problem, I was the one they called. I approach these conversations with patience, love, and understanding. I'm not perfect, I've had my own struggles. But I believe everything happens for a reason.

Over time, my passion for exploring life's big questions found its way into my spoken word performances. People who saw me perform on stage often told me my words inspired them. This wasn’t my intention; for me, it was simply a way to vent. But as more people approached me, telling me they felt the power of my words, a new understanding dawned on me: we are all dealing with some kind of struggle. Sometimes, people just want to feel understood, and they kept coming back for my art because they felt I understood them.

In Loving Memory

Many years have passed since then, and I’ve helped countless people. I've been through a lot myself, including losing loved ones in unimaginable ways. Once, I even became known across my country for standing up for what I believed was right, but that's a story for another time. I’ve learned to love myself and the values I stand for, and I'm happy to pass that on to strangers every day.

Today, while cleaning out my email inbox, I was reminded of this blog. Seeing it again brought back a wave of memories, especially how sad I was back then. My aunt had become very sick, and since she didn't have any children of her own, I stayed with her until her last breath. I took care of her, and when she passed away, it hurt so much. I felt like I hadn't done enough, even though I knew her illness wasn't my fault. This experience motivated me to help those around me even more. She always loved my writing, even when I saw it as just a hobby.

So, in her loving memory, I'm picking up my writing again. I want to share my story and the stories of the people I meet. Welcome to my blog, Story Time. I hope my words can inspire you, just as I’ve inspired so many people around me.

If you have any thoughts or questions you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out.

Be sure to check out some of my spoken word performances below!

Most of my performances are freestyled on the spot. I just love feeling the flow of my mind.

Update 2022: Thank you for following and supporting me on this journey. My blog has grown so much, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the love and support.
