Owos Suriname

Storytime: Finding Peace in the Green at Owos Resort, Suriname 🌿

By Shachem Lieuw | Story Time Productions

Hello, Storytime readers. As you know, I live for adventure. But here’s the truth: not every adventure is a "happy" one. Some are sad, some are loud, and some are quiet. But the adrenaline of exploration is a constant reminder that I am living. I’m satisfying a hunger that comes from within, trying to live the best way I can.

Today, I’m taking you on a short trip not far from Lelydorp or the airport. If you’re looking for a roadmap to Suriname’s hidden gems, hit that subscribe button and jump into the Storytime spaceship. 🚀

Today, we are talking about Owos Resort.

What is Owos? 🧘‍♂️

In a country that is still mostly lush green, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to nature. "Owos" is actually a Dutch acronym that translates to: Meeting, Wandering, Relaxing, and Being Together. Located near Powaka, it’s a straightforward 40-minute drive from Lelydorp. It’s the perfect spot for a quick getaway without needing a massive expedition.

The Essentials:

  • Hours: Monday – Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM.

  • Reservations: You can WhatsApp them at +597 850-4858.

  • What to Pack: A full tank of gas, food, swimwear, a hammock, and any cooking gear you need.

The Price of Peace (Budget Breakdown) 💵

In keeping with my "Innovative Cheapskate" philosophy, Owos is incredibly affordable. At the current exchange rates, you’re looking at:

  • Adult Entrance: SRD 40 (Under $2 USD)

  • Children (2.5–12 yrs): SRD 20 (Under $1 USD)

  • Parking: SRD 10 (About $0.50 USD)

  • Bus Parking: SRD 20 (Under $1 USD)

Hut Rentals:

  • Standard Small Hut: SRD 100 (Less than $5 USD)

  • Large Huts: SRD 200 – SRD 400 ($9 - $17 USD)

The Scenery vs. The Struggle 📸

When you visit Owos, don't look for five-star luxury. You are going for the creek, the trees, and the air.

I’ll be honest with you—I showed up in my swimsuit, but I never actually took the dive. I spent my time hanging around, taking in the scenery, which is absolutely perfect for photography. When we arrived, we had the place almost entirely to ourselves.

I have to be candid: I didn't "enjoy" my stay in the traditional sense. But that had nothing to do with Owos. We all face internal battles, and that day, mine was heavy. However, the stillness of the resort provided the introspection I needed.

I’m sharing this because I think it’s important to be open. Social media makes it look like every trip is a party, but everyone faces storms, no matter how bright the sun is shining. Spending time in nature is part of my new self-care routine. It helps me unblock thoughts that hinder my growth. It’s a reminder to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters before you get lost in the noise of daily life.

Final Thought 👣

If you’re in Suriname and need to escape the city pressure without traveling for hours, Owos is a solid option. To my local readers: Life is short. Go explore your own country! So many of us haven't seen the beauty in our own backyard.

As I head into a new phase of my life, I’m going to keep exploring, and I’m taking you with me. Check out the video below to see the beauty of Owos for yourself.
