Visiting Lucky Garden the most popular Chinese food restaurant in Lelydorp
Hello Storytime readers from around the world, if you ever happen to find yourself in Suriname you will notice a lot of restaurants that sell Chinese food. Our country's history with China goes back a couple of centuries. In 1858 the first Chinese Immigrants came to Suriname to work on plantations as contractors. The country's diverse history not only created a multiethnic culture but also a diverse culinary table. Surinamese people love food and we certainly don't mind sharing our food in the centuries that we have lived together. From the moment that you leave the Johan Adolf Pengel Airport, you will notice Chinese restaurants all around. Today I decided to share with you my visit to a famous Surinamese Chinese restaurant close to Lelydorp. It is called Lucky Garden and it's located on the Indira Gandhi weg number 394
You have to be lucky to not find yourself waiting in a line. But just in case you don't feel like waiting there are a couple of phone numbers that you can call to place your orders. Especially if you want to order dumplings like I did. For those, you mostly have to wait for about 20 minutes. I ordered mine fried, but you can have them steamed as well. The numbers you can call to place your order are; 0366669/036616 and 08817880.
I ordered fried rice with chicken and fried dumplings for this visit. I loved the dumplings and the sauce that comes along with them. The sauce was the right kind of hot and sour. I didn't expect to love the sauce that much.

Their fried rice left me satisfied, but you guys try it out and let me know what you think about it in the comments section. Suriname has a lot to offer when it comes to food. But to find out more about the Surinamese culture make sure you subscribe to Storytime. We have barely touched the surface when it comes to Surinamese food. It holds a part of our history, culture, and identity.

We also tried out their Chicken saw paw and their Hong Kong Nasi. I wish their Hong Kong Nasi would have more shrimp in it, even if that would make the price go up a little bit. Or maybe I just miss a Hong Kong Nasi that is loaded with shrimp. The saw paw was nicely filled and tasted good.
Meifun fried noodles, are not bad. It wasn't bad at all but make sure you are a noodle lover or a Meifun fanatic when you order this dish.
The sizzling chicken wasn't the best that I had. But it passes the food test. There is a lot of vegetables in it. This goes well with rice, but then again for us Surinamese people most things go well with rice.
