Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging. Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field. When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...
Hello, my dearest Story Time readers from around the world! How have you been? I am back with a new food adventure, in warm tropical Suriname. This time we are exploring another well-known roti place in Paramaribo. It's called Rambali roti shop and it is located at the 2e rijweg number 149, which is not far from the Hermitage Mall.
When you are vacationing in Suriname, you have to explore our food options to better understand the history of our people and how all these cultures came together. Our food tells stories of our ancestors and the places where their roots sprung from. From different parts of the world, all kinds of cultures come together to share their traditions, beliefs, food, and values with each other in a warm tropical South American/ Caribbean country called Suriname. The history of our cultural diversity is tragic, but how our ancestors kept fighting for their freedom to form the peaceful independent Republic of Suriname is a blessing. In my previous Story Time productions, I already explained the background of roti and how this Indian delicacy became so popular in Suriname. Not only do the descendants of the immigrants that made their way from India to Suriname enjoy this dish but this dish is also loved by all the different cultures living in Suriname. You won't find a shortage of roti shops and roti drive-thrus in Suriname. When you are driving in the 2e rijweg, it won't take you long to discover the small cozy roti shop known as Rambali. Be warned that it gets quite busy during lunch and dinner hours. Calling in and ordering in advance will save you a lot of time. Their food is much more affordable compared to the other roti restaurant giants in Suriname. You also get a little bit more compared to the other roti restaurants that I have visited. I ended up paying SRD70,- for my portion of roti. As of today, that amounts to $2,83 cents. Now that is a great deal if you ask me. But be sure you can handle your masala, especially if you are a foreigner with a sensitive stomach. Surinamese food is delicious because it is flavorful. We use a lot of seasoning in our dishes. If you want to get close to the taste of a homemade roti then Rambali certainly is the way to go. They give you a lot of food for your money. You also get vegetables with your roti, and if you are a spicy fan Suriname is a good place to challenge your spice buds. Spice is addictive for Surinamese people, and you will notice that we use different peppers and make our hot sauces in different ways. As a matter of fact, some Surinamese dishes have their own kind of signature hot sauce. But I am sure you will get to find out more about that in my next Story Time editions. So be sure to jump onto my Story Time U.F.O. that way I can zap you my new stories straight to your inbox. I made you guys a video of my experience at Rambali roti shop in Paramaribo. I'd love it if you would subscribe to my youtube channel to show some support for my content.
My friend Karishma got married recently. I am so happy for her, I asked her if I was allowed to film her wedding events and share them with you guys. She agreed, but unfortunately, due to my hectic schedule, I could not attend all parts. The parts I did get to record and take pictures of I will be sharing in my upcoming blog post with you. That way you get to see how the Indian culture has maintained itself in a warm tropical country right in the middle of the Guyana's. Her ancestors brought their culture and hope with them from India centuries ago and hundreds of years later she still carries on their traditions during her wedding ceremony. In this video, you will mostly see images of the Mehendi night that I attended. That is certainly another story that I look forward to sharing with you guys. It was a day after her wedding that I ended up visiting Rambali. If you do decide to visit Rambali and want to skip the line give them a phone call on 432363 and you can place your order in advance. My video has some sneak peeks of my friend her wedding. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this Story Time and that it motivated you to enjoy food adventures through this beautiful country I call Suriname. I can't wait for you to see what more awesome adventures I will be sharing with you. As you know I had a little bit of bad luck with my technology. Now I am working on gathering my old content too so I can share other amazing parts of Suriname with you. These are definitely places you need to visit on your travels in Suriname. Each time you see this country can be a different experience for you. I am a local, and even I haven't seen all parts of this tropical pearl in the amazon rainforest. Goodbye, my awesome Story Time readers, and until you are back right here on Story Time!
