A Gladiator's Feast: Rico's Foodtruck

A Gladiator's Feast: Rico's Foodtruck Hello fellow foodies! Welcome back to another culinary adventure. πŸ˜πŸ˜€This time, our food hunt takes us to Rico's A Gladiator Foodtruck , located at Wilhelminastraat 40 in Paramaribo. Rico's serves up a delicious array of burgers, shoarmas, and wraps. πŸ” We paid them a visit on a typically hot Paramaribo night, and my friend Dev-Lin was our official taste-tester for the evening. He got to try their cheeseburger and, after we finished filming, he couldn't stop joking about how Rico's was going to "take all his money." Giving it a high-praise rating of 11 out of 10, Dev-Lin's wallet surrendered as his stomach vowed to try every single item on their menu.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… One thing to keep in mind is that Rico's isn't open every day. So, before you head over, be sure to check their Facebook page for their current opening hours. Don't drool too much while watching our yummy food adventure. πŸ˜‹πŸ€€Have fun, and until...

Suriname's Pizza Hut and Fernandes bakery

Story Time: Pizza Hut food adventure and visiting Fernandes Bakery in Paramaribo

" Shachem Lieuw staring at Pizza and cheese puffs from Pizza Hut"

Hello, my dearest Story Time friends from around the world, how have you been? I do hope that everything is alright on your end. If things aren't, I believe in you and I keep you in my warm thoughts. We all have to go through difficult moments in life. You aren't the only one, but that doesn't mean that you matter any less. In this new Story Time food adventure, I'm sending you lots of positive vibes as you continue to enjoy my content creation process. I struggle to keep up with posting all my adventures on time. But that's because when your crown is as loving as mine, you get to go on so many adventures. I get to meet amazing people from all over the world. Most of my adventures are based in Suriname. I was born in this South American/ Caribbean country located in the middle of Guyana. We are right on the coast of South America, and in everything I do, I try to represent my country. ( Except for that one alias that made me more confident as a writer). In society, I wear many hats, but it's not my fault that God made me so diverse!
I dislike being confined to a box; instead, I enjoy exploring and delving beyond the surface. That's why I don't like putting my country or its people in a box either. If you're an idealist like me, it becomes easy to see the future of the world in a positive light. My heart has fallen in love with the potential of Suriname and its people. Suriname is an experience that can't be defined in a few stories. Not the good or bad parts, but I can tell you that our people are warm and loving. Even when we don't have much, we will share it with you. The current economic situation might have some behavioral impacts on society. But when does an increase in stress not affect human behavior? I'll relax my inner geek and philosopher for now. One of the best things about traveling to Suriname is, hands down, the food! When it comes to food,  we Surinamese people don't play around! Our multicultural society has given rise to a diverse culinary landscape. One of the things I enjoy writing about is that I believe sharing food is a way of sharing love. Something I could taste in each bite of every plate that was offered to me by warm souls in different parts of the country. In today's Story Time episode, I'm going to tell you about my experience at Pizza Hut in Suriname and Fernandes Bakery.
Let's dive right into this adventure. I went on a girls' day with a good friend of mine ( Life has blessed me to have many good friends, I hope the rotten apples stay out of my basket, and if they are there, I would be grateful if the universe throws them out). It's something I enjoy doing often; it gives me time to blow off some steam. A politician in the Dominican Republic gave me the advice to make time for myself at least once a week. If I weren't someone open to learning or taking advice, I wouldn't ask. We were craving some pizza! So we made our way to Johannes Mungra Street. This street is one of the most popular in Paramaribo. Pizza Hut is located right across Restoran Bibit

"Cheesy puffs from Pizza hut Suriname"

I know Pizza Hut isn't local, but they are still a popular favorite in Suriname. And when it comes to delicious food, Surinamese people are very accepting. That's why we even share each other's dishes. And no, this isn't a paid commercial for Pizza Hut. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ I'm a Surinamese blogger sharing my food experiences. When we arrived at Pizza Hut, it was early, so we had the place all to ourselves. They don't say the early bird gets the worm for nothing. The friendly staff offered us the menu. I noticed that they had cheese puffs on the menu. Since I never ordered these from Pizza Hut before, I got curious. We ordered the cheese puffs alongside a large thin-crust pizza. At this Pizza Hut in Suriname, you have the option to order two toppings on one pizza. We ordered the Chicken Supreme and the Chicken BBQ as our toppings. Our conversations kept us busy while waiting, and since we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, we didn't have to wait long before we were served. When the Cheese puffs arrived, I was pretty impressed. It wasn't what I expected it to be. The crust was nice and crunchy. I loved how you could taste the butter on the crust. The puffs were also really cheesy. You could pull strings from the cheese on the inside. Just writing about it makes me already crave more. I am definitely going back for more of those cheese puffs.

After we had finished our meal, the staff asked us if we would like to participate in a customer survey. We agreed, and when we finished the study, we received a complimentary pan pizza. That was a wonderful surprise for our girls' day. My stomach was so full that I had to bring the pizza home with me. It made a great evening snack for my little brother and me. Thank you for the wonderful experience at Pizza Hut. I like to practice gratitude for even the smallest acts of kindness. Being grateful for the good moments that life offers me is also a part of my self-love practices. After we finished eating and packing our leftovers, we headed to Fernandes Bakery in Suriname. FernandesAgenturenn is a company that has been operating in the Surinamese market for years. They do different things, but for today's Story Time, I'll be talking about my experience at the bakery. All the pastries in the bakery are fresh and made in Suriname. One item of theirs that is very popular, especially during the holidays, is their kerstbrood. Kerstbrooterm a Dutch word that t"ranslates to Chr"istmas bread. This Surinamese Christmas bread even gets exported. Compared to the Dutch variant of Christmas bread, I prefer the Surinamese one. Our Christmas bread is sweet but not too sweet, unlike the Dutch ones that are stuffed with jam. You can eat it with peanut jam or with butter and cheese. The last one is my favorite combination. Fernandes is the official Coca-Cola producer in Suriname. Their different drinks are extremely popular among locals. Fernandes also produces ice cream that they sell in their bakery. Do you have a birthday or an upcoming event? You can find cakes in a variety of flavors here at Fernandes Bakery. In Dutch, they are actually called Fernandes Bakkerij. Their snack line is diverse, from the cheesy Tesa Fesa to the chocolate Krie Kra and the Spicy Krupuk. I might make another Story Time episode about that in the future. Make sure to subscribe by entering your email address when you see the Story Time U.F.O. pop-up on your screen. In their bakery, located at Kernkampweg number 84, they sell different kinds of bread that are available in stores nationwide. From milk bread to brown bread, there are multiple options available. I mainly came for the fresh snacks. Unfortunately, I forgot to film my haul of the yummy Fernandes treats that I got. It was all so delicious that I forgot to film it before I finished it all. I got myself spicy chicken bread. That's a golden brown pastry filled with minced, cooked, and properly seasoned chicken. I also got the chocolate doughnut and the Roomhoorn (cream horn). Those bring back nostalgic memories as they were a favorite in my childhood. Speaking of favorites, the jelly-filled doughnut automatically got added to my basket. That jelly-filled doughnut is something else. The jam melts on your tongue, with the sweetness of strawberries or raspberries. Please note that Fernandes Bakery is often crowded. I made a video for you, and I hope you love it! Until next time, right here on Story Time! πŸ’“πŸ˜˜ We will be going on plenty of adventures together.
