Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Restoran Bibit

Story Time: Dinner at Restoran Bibit

" Complimentary loempia's from Restoran Bibit in Paramaribo"

Hello my dearest Story Time friends from around the world, how have you been? I am floating around like most of us are. 2022 has indeed been one intense year so far. Full of exciting moments and adventures. Gasp I am not even done sharing all of them with you. Time goes by too fast so make sure you subscribe to my blog when you see that Story Time U.F.O. pop up on your screen. That way you can join me on my adventures. Today we are going on another food adventure in Paramaribo. This relatively new restaurant is located on Johannes Mungra street, where Shakers used to be. This is a Javanese restaurant where the cuisine reflects strong Indonesian influences. I went to give it a try and I am taking you along with me on my experience. It's not difficult to find, it's right across from Pizza Hut.  That's also a topic for another Story Time. I told you I got a lot of adventures to share with you. They have a large parking area so you don't need to worry about finding a spot when visiting Restoran Bibit. I like peace and quiet, so I went on a weekday during the early hours. That way we had the place all to ourselves. You can sit outside where you have a view of the street while enjoying the Surinamese tropical breeze or you could sit inside of the restaurant. I chose an indoor experience. The servers were nice enough to immediately help us find a seat. They provided us with the menu and after that, they took down our order. I took a look at the menu and ordered a mango smoothie as my drink.

Aesthetically the mango smoothie looked pleasing. I am a mango lover, I like my mango sweet and this mango was a bit too sour for me and you could taste how it was watered down. I am sorry Restoran Bibit I have to keep it real with my Story Time readers. But I'll give you credit where it is due. They had dawet Ice cream. Dawet is a Javanese coconut drink made with lemongrass. It's one of my favorite Javanese drinks, especially when it's homemade with cornstarch jellies in it. But I have never had it as an ice cream before. You guys know I love Ice cream, I mean look at my Alegria stories or my videos on my TikTok and YouTube channels. You can find me there under the name Shachem Lieuw. Anyway, I couldn't resist and I had to go for the Dawet Ice cream from Restoran Bibit so I ordered it off their menu.

Let me tell you something if you come to Restoran Bibit, make sure you get the Dawet Ice cream, it is so worth it. It even tasted better than I thought it would. Their Dawet Ice cream exceeded my expectations. I did not expect to get so hooked upon tasting it. The Ice cream tasted like it was made with heavenly love. My compliments to the chef on that one. I am certainly coming back to Restoran Bibit in the future for Ice cream. Tell your sweetheart to bring you here for date night and order the Dawet Ice cream. Thank me later, there is enough space for that in the comments.😜😝😝 But for real, I fell in love with the Dawet Ice cream that they serve at Restoran Bibit. 😍😍😍 Tell my future husband that if the Ice cream at my wedding isn't this good or better, I don't want the marriage.😌

The Ice cream had a peanut butter taste in it and even some crunchy peanuts. I loved the combination of the dawet and the peanut butter. Whoever thought of combining these two flavors together was a genius. Restoran Bibit really innovated on this one. I am surprised, I would never think that these two flavors would combine so well together. This was easily the highlight of my culinary experience at Restoran Bibit. Well multiple things that we got from them tasted good. So it was hard to pick a favorite. But the Dawet Ice cream certainly is in the top 3. We also received some complimentary loempia's. That was a pleasant and delicious surprise. I loved the composition of the plate and how they presented the food in such a colorful manner. Loempia's are basically a Javanese take on egg rolls. In most cases, the egg roll is filled with chicken bits and greens or sometimes even cheese. Although I am sure that someone might want to jump in the comments and fight me on how the one with the chicken and cheese filling is a rissole. Rissoles are also a type of egg roll. The Loempia's at Restoran Bibit is certainly worth trying. Give it a bite when you are there and you won't regret it.

Don't those egg rolls look beautiful? They taste as good as they look especially if you eat them freshly baked. I was impressed, it felt like a reward for my tastebuds at each chew. For the main course, my attention went to the Nasi Goreng Keju. On the menu, it said Indo cheese fried rice that goes very well with shrimp. I love shrimp, but it was kind of hard to decide with the different interesting options that they have on their menu. But who knows, that might be for another Story Time episode.

I'll say it again when it comes to presentation Restoran Bibit doesn't disappoint. The cheesy rice almost tasted like coconut rice. I loved the shrimp it was well-flavored and was a delightful combination with the rice. The sambal and those fried potatoes gave that cheesy rice an extra flavor boost. I don't regret ordering the Nasi Goreng Keju. I would certainly have it again, but next time I might taste some other dishes so you guys have an idea of what that looks like as well. We also ordered Javanese Bami. That's the Surinamese Javanese take on fried noodles.

The bami gets an 8 out of 10 for me. It was good, the sambal that came with it was nice and spicy. The meat was juicy the noodles weren't too soggy or dry. It just becomes difficult to give it a high score after having tasted that cheese rice. They were certainly not falsely advertising the good taste on the menu. I will give Restorant Bibit an extra plus point on that one. I love how they innovate with Javanese dishes. They bring out a modern and new twist to our favorite cultural foods. If you happen to find yourself traveling through the streets of Suriname and you want to give Javanese food a try I certainly recommend that you visit Restoran Bibit. They might end up becoming a delightful surprise for your taste buds too. I made a video of my visit to Restoran Bibit for you guys. I have been experimenting more with video content on my blog and I must say I love the way technology has evolved. I am still learning but these tools help me tell my Stories in a beautiful way. It's like I can write stories and have my own TV channel at the same time.  Making the experience even better for you. May we keep learning and growing! I hope you enjoy my stories and until next time right here on Story Time!
