Part 2:
A week had passed since Jiang Bao met the mysterious woman who triggered his nightmares. It was 10:00 in the morning, and he was on his fourth cup of coffee while pacing around his office.
A foreign habit to his morning routine.
Once again, his thoughts shifted to the woman whom he met on that rainy day.
Ever since they met, her face kept reappearing in his dreams.
As soon as he falls asleep, he drifts to a place surrounded by mountains.
The second time he dreamt about her, he woke up as a little boy in a small village.
His mother would prepare a bath for him and send him out to play so she could prepare food with the scarce provisions they had.
Ignoring his rumbling tummy, little Ho-Yung would run outside to meet his one friend in the village.
Outside, it began to rain, but that didn't stop Ho-Yung.
In his heart, he knew that Miking would be waiting for him.
It didn't matter if the sun was shining, it was raining, or if it was snowing. Every day, Miking would wait for Ho Yung as a loyal and patient friend.
Today wasn't any different!
With his vision clouded by the heavy raindrops, he still spotted her pink umbrella from a distance.
There she was patiently waiting for him!
She knew she could count on him to show up, and he never doubted she'd miss a day waiting for him.
The smile on his lips widened as he approached Miking in her red dress.
" Where have you been? I've been waiting so long for you!".
" I had to help Mom move the wood we gathered for winter.".
" The weather is bad today. Don't know if we'll be able to play.".
Young Miking stared at the grey clouds in the sky.
Ho Yung's heart raced, and without thinking, he ran away from under the umbrella.
He smiled when he heard Miking call his name, but he didn't stop running. In his heart, he knew she'd always follow him.
" Ho Yung, come back. You're going to catch a cold.".
Miking ran behind her foolish friend, holding onto her pink umbrella.
She followed him through the empty market and muddy roads. Ho Yung didn't stop until they reached an abandoned shed.
Miking finally caught up to him and covered Ho Yung with her umbrella. He smiled because he knew she'd always be there to cover him. For a moment, he'd let her take the lead, only to pass her again, so he could be her guiding light in this dark weather.
Ho Yung stopped in front of an abandoned shed outside the village. The familiar footsteps of Miking caught up as she gasped for air, and she put her hand on her friend's shoulder. " Ho Yung, why must you always run away from me?". The young boy smiled mischievously and answered, " It's because I know that no matter how fast I run, you'll always catch up to me." Miking seemed offended and lifted her head with confidence.
"One day you won't find me running behind you."Oh, but even if the sun stops setting and the moon quits its rising, I don't believe such a day will exist." Ho Yung pushed the shed doors open, and it was empty inside. There was nothing but haystacks and bales for horses. The kids sought shelter and warmth inside the shed. From that day on, this shed became a sacred meeting place for Ho-Yung and Miking.
Meanwhile, in another life unfolding in the modern world, a new day in the office began for Jiang Bao. His assistant manager, Larry, reminded him that they would be interviewing candidates for the company's latest social media manager position. The company was aiming to improve its brand recognition among a younger audience. Jia Bao recalled the numerous scandals of high-ranking company members that were exposed on social media last year. He filled his cup with freshly brewed coffee.
" So that means it's going to be a long day.".
"On the bright side, you get to meet 22 new, eager, and excited faces!" Jiang Bao took a deep breath. I've been feeling so tired lately that I could use a vacation before dealing with all those new and eager faces."
"That sounds like something you should take up with HR, but for now, this needs to get done. Headquarters requested we appoint a social media manager asap!" Jiang Bao tried to compose himself, but these dreams made it difficult for him to concentrate on anything else! In the past, he had always managed to push through anything to achieve his goals. But somehow his heart felt distracted. It longed for a place in the past. A place that no longer exists. The only way he could revisit that place is through a memory hidden in the heartbeats of time. He tried to put himself in a deep state of denial. After talking with all the applicants, he felt drained. His mind wasn't present during most of the conversations. Staying committed to the request from headquarters, he quickly approved the top-ranked applicant's file to become the new social media manager. After that, he submitted a request for a long vacation to a tropical destination. Maybe under the sun, his mind would find peace while indulging in the ocean's breeze. He booked a ticket to Hawaii and prepared for his first vacation in years. It was as if destiny pushed him to another part of the world.
By 10:00 AM on a Monday, Jiang Bao landed on the tropical island.
He enjoyed the fresh, warm ocean air flowing through his lungs and even basked in the morning sun. Carrying his bags, he spotted a driver holding a sign with his name on it. With the hotel's concierge's help, he had arranged for a chauffeur. It was a short drive to his hotel. He had picked one by the beach so he could enjoy a unique sunset or sunrise during his long walks. The driver helped him take out his bags when they arrived at the hotel. It was a luxurious resort with numerous swimming pools. The swimming pool had a fantastic view of the ocean's horizon.
Jiang Bao approached the reception desk.
The entire hall glowed due to the gold and gemstones artistically blended into the walls.
Even the reception table had green emerald stones and white cut diamonds crafted into its design.
" Hello, I'm here to check in."
" I believe I was here before you!" a sharp voice pointed out.
Jiang Bao looked next to him and saw a woman standing beside her luggage.
" It's you again, the woman with the pink umbrella.".
"What are you talking about?".
" You mistook me for your neighbor's son.".
" Oh, that's right, now I remember you!".
" Funny meeting you again, but only this time we meet all the way across the world.".
"Excuse me, who can I help first?" the woman behind the reception desk asked impatiently.
