Halloween has already passed.πŸ˜‚ So it might be too late for that. Last week we had a busy weekend. Between everything on our to-do list, we also wanted to head to Grund Djari for a birthday celebration. We were invited to celebrate the 65th Birthday of the chairman of the National Party Suriname. I don't always talk politics on my blog, but I enjoy sharing parts of my life. Remember that I never try to force my political beliefs on anyone. I only share some of the moments of my journey.  We decided to surprise Dr. Rusland with a bouquet. Early in the morning, we headed to the Van Roseveltkade staat. There are many flower shops, hotels, and popular restaurants l

Who is Farisha Tjin A Sjoe?

"Miss Tropical Beauty Suriname 2019"
'If your mental state is good, your life will be better.'

" My name is Farisha Tjin A Sjoe, I was born on the 17th of June 1999 and I am now 20 years old. My parents have 2 children, my little brother and me. I study medicine on FMeW ( Faculiteit der Medische Wetenschappen, a medical wing of the only university in Suriname).  My talents are the basics of dancing and singing. Only now do I dance more and sing less. In my free time, I have been dancing for the Mystikalz (Famous Surinamese dance group) for 2-3 years. I do this because it makes me feel like I could be any and everyone I want to be. Another interest of mine is Transcendental meditation, something I have learned from my father. Now my journey to become Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname started when I was checking my e-mail one day and I saw a message with the subject 'Tropical beauties Suriname'. At first, I was shocked and I thought that it was sent to the wrong person. After I saw that the e-mail was from Jermain Tjin A Koeng, I knew this was serious. For my bad luck, I had seen the e-mail exactly one day before the audition and I started to panic. I asked my mother, my father, my little brother, and everyone I knew for advice. I decided to visit the auditions because that doesn't exactly mean that you are participating. I went the following day with the only pair of heels that I owned. After I met the girls who were there to audition, I started to feel more comfortable. I decided to go through this process because it seemed to be more of personal development than only learning how to walk the catwalk and how to do some posses."  Before you knew it, Farisha Tjin A Sjoe started her journey to become the next Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname.

Becoming Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname 2019.

'Every individual can make a difference'

" What motivated me to keep going is the other girls, even though they don't know that. It's an experience you don't go through alone. This makes certain bumps down the road easier to cross. There is a relating factor among us that kept me motivated. I couldn't let the girls down, because, in the end, you represent a group. Throughout the entire experience, I landed in situations that I never thought of. I had to make decisions that I never thought I would have to make in my life. It was a process where I met the deepest part inside of me and I will always take that with me for the rest of my life.  I was constantly pushed out of my comfort zone, so it was a process of growth and when that happens it's a whole new world. I ended up learning a lot from it, but the most important thing that I will always take with me is that you have to be able to forgive yourself. If you don't you won't be able to move on in life. For me being the new Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname means to be myself, it's only a title. But the person carrying that title adds worth to it. It's a great honor to be Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname and of course, now I have certain responsibilities. Every individual can make a difference and with the title, I now have a platform. With the platform I as an individual and Miss can make a difference as well, that is what it means to me. As the new Miss Tropical Beauty Suriname, I want to focus on mental health awareness. I think that that is the basis for everything in life, if your mental state is good your life will be better and the world will be at its best. These days a lot of people have to deal with depression. I used to be depressed myself, but I managed to get out of it by talking a lot and meditating. This is the reason why I want to bring more focus on meditation within our society.  And of course next year I have the task to represent Suriname during the Miss Supranational elections 2020."

'You have to be able to forgive yourself, if you don't you won't be able to move on in life!'
I wanted to know what some of the wonderful moments were that Farisha Tjin A Sjoe experienced during the Tropical Beauties Suriname pageant.
" There were moments where we just acted crazy and made a lot of jokes together. So much that my stomach would hurt me and I would tear up from laughing. During our photoshoot days, we did mini playback shows because the stylist had his music on really loud. During the training some of the contestants were absent and we as girls had to substitute for the boys in the Gala and swimwear rehearsals, sometimes the boys would also substitute for the girls. There have been so many fun and beautiful moments that I take with me. I have also received support from my parents, they took everything into account and were really patient. My boyfriend also stood by me and I am thankful to him for everything. My friends showed a lot of support and patience. While undergoing this process I was really busy because I had school as well. This made me feel like I wasn't giving my loved ones enough attention. But they were very understanding and gave me the time I needed, I could not have asked for a better circle! I want to tell young ladies that as young women we often have a lot of restrictions. But I want to tell you that as a young woman you can do everything you set your mind to. Don't let anyone convince you that you can't do something. As long as it makes you happy and you aren't hurting anyone you just have to go for it. The power of the female is the fact that we are female.

'The power of the female is the fact that we are female'
There are no specific things that one has to take in mind if you want to become the next Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname. You just have to be open to growing and learning. Everyone experiences their own personal growth. That is also the reason why anyone can participate, except for some standard rules like length, not being married, etc." I asked Farisha Tjin A Sjoe if she had any idea that she would win?
" Of course not, I came inside and was quickly intimidated by the other beauties. The moment I stepped in the person I knew best was myself, I didn't get to know the others yet. So It didn't have any idea that I would be able to win, because you don't know what the other contestants have or what the people want in a Miss."  Farisha Tjin A Sjoe, what is Fashion for you, and how important is the role of fashion in the Miss Tropical Beauties elections?
" Fashion is art, it's a way to express yourself and everyone can and may express themselves. The role of a Miss in fashion is to express herself because that is the most important thing she has to do. Of course, there are trends, but a trend is a temporary fashion is eternal. My favorite outfit that I wore during the Miss Tropical Beauties Suriname 2019 elections is the blue mermaid dress that I wore during the Gala round. If I had to chose that dress for myself I wouldn't pick it out because I don't like mermaid dresses that much. But when I wore it, I got another feeling from the dress. I felt like a Disney princess." What were the emotions going through you when you found out that you won The Miss Tropical Beauties contest?
" A thankful feeling, at first my head was empty! I didn't know what I was feeling or how I was supposed to feel after that I closed my eyes and thanked the universe for this achievement"
