Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Hello, Storytime readers from all over the world. I know I keep staying away for a long time only to pop up again when I want to. What can I say it has earned me the nickname Marry Poppins. But that's a different story ( Yes, I'm still a tease).  It's oké, if you end up missing me too much be sure to subscribe to my blog. That way you will be the first one to be notified when I post a new story. The good news is that I have been on a lot of fun adventures lately, that I wish to share with the rest of the world. I know I keep rambling about how pretty and diverse my country is. But it's true, I've only recently turned 28 and I am still a big adventurer. I've seen all 10 districts (comparable to a state) in my country and I've still not seen everything or done everything that there is to do in Suriname. My country is 5 times bigger than Holland and we are rich in flora and fauna, so there is still a lot of exploring that I have left to do. The only down part here is the bad economical situation caused by corruption. But hey every country has its own messy politics right? So let's give it a positive twist and talk about the positive.

Because there are a lot of positives in this beautiful tropical paradise located in the Amazonian rainforest, which's also a part of the Caribbean, we're going to explore the beautiful things about this country and I'm taking you along with me on this journey. Suriname is indeed a tropical pearl to be admired. I hope you can relive my experiences through my blog and that it might motivate you to get out there and see the beautiful side of nature and the world once this pandemic is over. Another positive fact is that we experience 0 natural disasters in a year. We don't have earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis or any of the scary stuff.  One of the many cool facts about my country. So it's a safe place to travel throughout all the seasons of the year once the airlines are open for business again. I know this pandemic can be stressful and boring, but let's keep hoping for the best. After all, a little bit of positive thinking couldn't hurt. It is in these dark times that we must remain hopeful for better days while the world is awaiting a cure.

Anyway, can you believe that there are dolphins not far from Paramaribo (the capital) and I haven't seen one up close before? All this time we keep watching Sea world on T.V and YouTube while I could have just taken a boat and see one for myself. You don't think about this kind of stuff as a local. Because trust me I'm pretty sure a lot of people in my country still haven't seen a dolphin in real life before. Others go to other Caribbean country's to visit sea aquariums, meanwhile, we have dolphins of the wild show going on not too far from Nw Amsterdam (Main town of District Commewijne). Before you take this trip be sure to pack some sunscreen. Or else you could get a bad sunburn, do not joke around with this tropical sun! Pack a towel as well because there is a big chance that you might get a little bit wet on the boat trip, some easy to wear shoes that ensure flexible movement is another one on the recommendations list. Because you will have to climb in and out of the boat.

Anyway I figured it was about time that I went to spot some dolphins. So I contacted Kiran's Dolphin tours. They can arrange the entire trip for you. You just have to let them know what you need. Besides dolphin spotting, they can also take you to watch sea turtles, visit the Warappa kreek ( Warappa creek in English), take you on a tour of the plantations, visit Stone Island, Brownsberg (a natural reserve that is a mountain where some rare species have been discovered, famous for it's hiking trails to the waterfalls), Stone Island, Blanche Marie waterfalls , Ralleigh waterfalls and a couple of other options that are available. All places worth visiting, but I might tell you more about that in the future. Since I've already been to a couple of these places before, I can definitely recommend it. I might even revisit some of them so that I can write more stories to share with you guys. If you wish to contact Kiran's Dolphin tours you can call them on the following cell phone numbers: 597 (*597 is the country code for Suriname)8584926 or on the number 5978287118. They also have an e-mail adres in case you wish to make digital inquiries. You can mail them on the following email address: kiran.balrampersad@gmail.com

Once you booked your trip I can certainly tell you that you're in for an adventure. The boat has a sound system on it so we ended up dancing in the boat. You won't get bored on this trip especially if you take some awesome people along with you. Before you knew it we were off on our adventure. The boat ride can be a bit bumpy, safety vests are provided. Don't hesitate to put them on for your own wellbeing. Once we arrived at the confluence of the Suriname and Commewijne river I saw countless dolphins and it was an experience that you have to witness for yourself. Words cannot describe the beauty that nature provides us. Afterward, we decided to head towards Braamspunt. A famous beach in Suriname that divides a part of the river from the sea. This place is also famous for the sea turtles that come to lay their eggs on this beach.  They are protected by institutions in Suriname. Yet you still have some poachers that try to get away with sea turtle eggs since it's a delicacy in Suriname. Institutions that protect the environment have been heavily campaigning against eating these sea turtle eggs in the last years. But before I go on with my story I hope you enjoy this short video of some dolphins we spotted .

Once we arrived at Braamspunt beach I went exploring. On your way there you will notice many fisher houses on the river. I think these fishermen are also one of the reasons the beach is loaded with plastic garbage. That's the only down point because this place is so beautiful. It has an awesome view and it's a great place to take your Instagram pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any sea turtles because it isn't the season for that yet. But I'm planning another trip for that. Keep subscribing so that you won't miss that story. On one side of the beach, you have the river and on the other side, you have the ocean. You can take a dip if you want to, I've seen some people do that. But that's entirely up to you! I've also noticed a lot of dead fishes on the beach. I guess when the fishermen find fish that they can't use they throw them back into the water. I also saw a lot of Jellyfishes on the beach that couldn't escape the lowering tides. I didn't even know we had Jellyfish, so that was certainly an interesting discovery that a friend of mine made during our trip.

But despite the environmental issues, I had a great time exploring this place. After all, life is one big adventure and my story is being written as I go. I'd still recommend visiting this place. So if you're ever in Suriname make sure to add this to your bucket list. I know that life is short but nevertheless, keep going on adventures and keep exploring while staying safe! It's very relaxing and windy. So if you want to relax while being among nature bring a hammock and enjoy it. Make sure you keep the place clean as well. Because not because others make a mess out of these beautiful places, it means that you should as well. Respect mother nature and its beauty. Keep making friends while you explore the world. They make the adventures even more fun. That's all I have to share with you guys for this edition of Storytime. Keep following my blog for more awesome stories to come.
