Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Caribbean Youth Fellowship Certificate Ceremony In Suriname

" Sharona Lieuw On presenting mental health poem during Caribbean Youth Fellowship on public policy certificate ceremony"

Hello, my dearest Story Time readers from around the world. I want to share an experience with you in today's blogger notes. I wanted to write to you sooner about this, but finding the pictures took me a while. Still, life, and the universe loves me. A determined Queen has a way of finding what she wants, even if that's with the help of the many amazing people that surround her.  They motivate me to keep going. The effort, energy, and love poured into my empire will yield abundant crops.  As you guys know I participated in the Caribbean Youth Fellowship program. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of public policy.  For the last couple of years, I have been investing in myself by trying to gain more knowledge. Because I believe that my people deserve the best version of me. As a servant leader, I don't strive to be a role model. I keep saying everywhere I go ( even on my Story Time blog) that perfection does not exist. It is an illusion, but what I do posses is the drive to keep swimming no matter how strong the current gets. Man has life been quite an exercise for me up until this point. I have been through so much as I am sure many of you have been. If you just got through today surviving another day despite all the cloudy thoughts in your head saying otherwise you deserve to be celebrated. As I am typing this story for you guys I realize that the reason why I am writing these stories is for you! To make you believe and have faith that no matter how much hurt, issues, and obstacles you face you can still conquer like the emperor/empress that you are. It's the challenges that bring out our strength. It tests our being to remind us each time what is hidden underneath the flesh and blood that moves with the gift of life.  Anyway, when I first got accepted into the Caribbean Youth Fellowship I had no idea if I was able to juggle it or to even finish it. Because at that time I had applied for multiple opportunities. I really had my eye on this Agriculture opportunity. I was accepted for all the things I applied for, but as fate had it I didn't respond on time to confirm for the Agriculture one that I was super excited about. That's how I ended up at the beginning of the program. At the time I found it difficult to combine multiple things at the same time. Especially if you travel up and down the country like I do.  But one way or another I managed to finish it. Mostly with the help of my friends who let me use their wifi no matter in what area of Suriname I was in at the moment. Having gained a broader perspective on public policy I look forward to using these tools to build an impact in my community.  5 countries were participating in this Caribbean Youth Fellowship program. These countries are Suriname, Belize, The Dominican Republic, Trinidad, and Tobago, and Jamaica. From each country, the top applicants were selected to participate in the program.  On the Suriname team, we decided to work on a policy for mental health in public schools. I had to leave my team behind in the depts of our tropical rainforest just to make it back to the city on time for the certificate outreach ceremony. This was held in Spice Quest, because I was proud of all the things that I was doing at that time I invited the Chairman of the National Party Suriname (N.P.S.) Dr. Gregory Rusland to witness this moment. I was super happy that he showed up to show support for the youth of his party. Even if it was for a short while because he has a busy schedule. Something that I can understand and respect.  This program was made possible by the International Republican Institute, The National Endowment for Democracy (N.E.D.), and the Centre for Public Policy Analysis (CAPP). I want to remind you guys that sometimes when opportunities come on your path you just need to take a risk and embrace the journey because you never know where it will end up bringing you. It is during the adventure that the character of the hero evolves. It is your story, and you have the power to give life to your own purpose. Enjoy the pictures and until next time right here on Story Time!
