Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Mimosa Pudica plant

Story Time: Mimosa Pudica, touch me not plant growing in the tropical rainforest of Suriname

Hello my dearest Story Time friends from around the world, how are you? I am back with a new Story Time article and in today's episode, we are talking about the Mimosa Pudica plant. It's also known as the touch me not plant. This plant grows abundantly in Suriname. It seems to do well in the tropical climate of the Amazon rainforest. In the video that I made for you guys, I came across the Mimosa Pudica plant in Atjonie. As you know Atjonie is a location in the district of Sipaliwini. That's one of the greenest districts of Suriname. But you can find this grass in different parts of the country. Being a little girl I would come across it often in Commewijne. Back then we would play often with this plant. When we'd find a bunch of them, the touch me not plant became our entertainment. It's ironic that they call it the touch me not plant. When you touch the Mimosa Pudica the leaves start to close. It's almost like the plant becomes shy with physical touch. Coming across this plant in Atjonie brought me back to those childhood moments. That's why I couldn't resist and had to play with this Mimosa Pudica plant that I found. There were a lot of them growing in Atjonie, near the solar panel center. The Mimosa Pudica is a fine example of how plants and nature are alive. Our Surinamese tropical rainforest is not only rich in resources, but we also have a lot of medicinal plants growing here. It's a pity that our local government and educational institutions don't have enough resources to conduct their own research. Most unique discoveries made in Suriname are made by foreigners. The Republic of Suriname has a lot of potentials, but the lack of resources and good leadership is negatively impacting the development of this South American/Caribbean country. 😩 I guess it's up to the coming generations to deal with that. Like the Mimosa Pudica, there are many other unique plants and flowers hidden in the tropical Amazon rainforest of Suriname. Some of these plants are even rich in anti-oxidants.  Anti-oxidants are processed into medicines. I did notice that when it comes to medicinal herbs a lot of tourists give that a try when they are traveling through Suriname. They go to different parts of the interior and are open to exploring medicinal herbs when they visit the herbal medicinal doctors of the jungle. I guess that's a different way to find healing in nature. Don't forget to subscribe to my blog when you see that Story Time U.F.O. pop up on your screen. I can't wait to share more of the things I come across in my exploration with you guys. Now you got to learn a bit about the plants and weeds in my country. There is so much more to learn about Surinamese plants but that might be for another Story Time.
