Dinner At E'Tembe Rainforest Restaurant In Suriname
Hello Story Time friends, how are you doing? These days it's been sunny in tropical Suriname. There were a few rainy moments, but nothing big enough to keep you from your next travel adventure! I love exploring my country and sharing those adventures with you on my blog. Despite being a native of Paramaribo, I still keep discovering new places. I was born and brought up in the city. Well, for Surinamese people it's a big city, but it might look more like a small town compared to some other countries. Living on the coast of South America is a vivid experience. Especially when you live in the only Dutch-speaking country in the region. But don't let that discourage you from considering Suriname as your next travel destination. Most people are bilingual and we are a mix pot of cultures and culinary experiences. In the search for something different, we found E'tembe Tropical Rainforest Restaurant. The restaurant is located at the Waterkant. Waterkant means riverside in Dutch. It's a popular tourist area in Paramaribo where many restaurants are located. It's not far from the popular hotels and the central market. You need to walk inside the property before you'll see E'tembe Rainforest Restaurant. The wooden building stands right above the Suriname River. We walked across the bridge to arrive at the entrance of the restaurant. The wind had knocked over one of the plants, but that didn't keep me from getting to my destination. The first thing that caught my attention was the view! This restaurant is certainly the right spot to pick out for a romantic date night. When we went we had the place all to ourselves! If you are a content creator like me, that's a relief. I didn't have to worry about blurring people their faces for once.👀😅
That's why I got to take a lot of awesome shots for you guys with my Nikon D3300. The vlog that I made of my visit to E'Tembe Rainforest Restaurant was made entirely with the Nikon D3300. 😏From now on I'll be mentioning what equipment I've used in my blog for those of you who are more interested in the technical side of capturing these everlasting moments. But back to the story! I loved that the wooden design and the art that they had matched the restaurant's name. Remember that if you are traveling to Suriname, carry cash with you! That's the best way to go when you come to this part of the Caribbean. I ordered a mope juice and walked around to snap some pictures for you guys. The mope juice was delicious, refreshing, and made from real fruit. I didn't taste anything artificial in the tropical fruit juices that they served at E'Tembe Rainforest Restaurant.
Just being there and staring at the view of the Suriname River was relaxing. We got to see their menu and I read in it that the restaurant helps support indigenous maroon communities. They are a bit pricy and it's more like fine dining. But I guess you can say that you are also paying for the view. So if you are a local Surinamese person keep in mind that this won't be like visiting a warung. I ordered the Jamaican Chicken because that's exactly what we wanted to try! We actually google searched unique dishes in Suriname and that's how we found out about this place. Because I am a shrimp lover, we also ordered the coconut shrimp dish. Our food was being prepared and I kept staring at the boats passing us by as the sun was about to set. This just goes to show, that there will always be a new place to explore. Our food arrived and the presentation was beautiful! Although the quantity of the chicken is not quite like the portions that we Surinamese people are used to for the price that you are paying. But I was still impressed by how smooth my chicken cut! It was like dipping a spoon into room-temperature butter. The chicken was marinated with our popular Surinamese Parbo beer. You could taste it in the meat and I liked it. It came along with some sauces. Stew thought it was too dry, but of course, foreign food will taste different from what we are used to. The food is also prepared by a foreign chef who did an amazing job at plating his dishes. Having tasted foreign food before, I know that some flavors might take time to get used to for Surinamese people. But personally, I thought that this was better than most of the foreign food that I had. I loved the pineapple on the chicken! I know I'm one of those fruity people.😂 The coconut shrimp didn't have the big shrimps in it like you'd normally receive in other fine dining establishments. But it had a nice spicy, coconut-flavored masala curry sauce. I bet that if I had some rice to go with that, it would taste even better! We also had a side of vegetables.
