Why you should explore the interior of Suriname?
Hello, my dearest Story Time readers from around the world. I am back with another Story for you guys. If you are ever planning to visit Suriname, I recommend that you do! There is one thing that you must add to your bucket list during your travels. And that is exploring the interior of Suriname. This tropical country that is located in South America and the Caribbean is also known as the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Our neighbors are Brazil in the south, Guyana in the west, and French Guyana in the east. In the north, my country borders the Atlantic Ocean. We are called the heart of the Amazon rainforest for a good reason. That is why in this Story Time article I will list for you 3 reasons why you should explore the interior of Suriname. Don't forget to hop onto my Story Time U.F.O. that way you won't miss any of the stories and adventures that I have to share with you guys. Here are 3 reasons why you should explore the interior of Suriname or the binnenland as we call it here in Suriname:
1. Come admire the beauty of the tropical Amazon rainforest
When you arrive in the capital, you get to enjoy a little bit of the luxury that Paramaribo has to offer. It won't take you long to figure out that Suriname is a diverse country. This means that we have a multicultural society. The history behind it is not so pretty. But through it all, we have learned to live with each other, tolerate each other, and respect each other. In the interior of Suriname, you will find a lot of Marroon people and Amerindian people. They are the descendants of their brave ancestors that had to survive invasions and domination from the colonial powers. The Maroon people have adapted to life in the interior of Suriname ever since their ancestors chose freedom and ran away from the slave owners that captured and dragged them from their homeland all the way to this tropical country. Their descendants still live in the villages that their ancestors started. One time I got to watch this awesome documentary on how people in Africa and the Maroon people in Suriname could understand each other. Because they were basically still speaking the same language, despite being on a whole different continent. But it's like I always keep telling you guys on my blog, Suriname is so diverse that you can find a piece of the world in different parts of our country. When you travel through the tropical Amazon rainforest in Suriname you get to enjoy its beauty and take the view in. Even when you are traveling by road you will find yourself driving on and among mountains that are a part of the Amazon rainforest. It is something I recommend that you experience for yourself. Just be sure to bring along a comfortable pillow on your travels. We have so much beautiful green scenery and even passing by the river rapids on the boat is a wonderful experience. Especially if you are traveling with experienced boatmen that you can trust. As you cruize through the river under the trees and feel the wind blowing against you, those are the moments where nature and life speak to us that the world is bigger than humanity itself! During your journey, you will find a lot of exotic wildlife here. As a matter of fact, a large part of the species and plants living in the Amazon rainforest have still not been discovered by scientists. That is why each time foreign scientists discover new kinds of things in our rainforest. Man, imagine what we could do if we would invest more in our own people! An example of discoveries made in Suriname is The purple frog, the Cocoa frog, and 60 other frog species. Rare kinds of birds are also spotted in Suriname. There is a lot of different kind of nature tours that you can book during your travels in Suriname. Experience the music of the tropical rainforest when the birds, howler monkeys, frogs, and insects start their daily choir. Suriname is in short a bucket list destination for every nature lover. Come experience it, and help boost our economy. That might take the focus off exploiting our natural resources in a way that destroys the rainforest. Speaking of the environment, be mindful of your trash during your travels. The interior is way cleaner than the city. Look after yourself and don't leave any trash to damage our beautiful surroundings. Personally, on my trips, we bring our trash back to the city and then dispose of it in an ethical way.
2. Recharge your batteries in nature!
As you guys can see I got my hair braided at Tio Boto Eco lodge. After being in the boat with the wind going through my thick curly hair for that long, it seemed like a relieving option to me. And it was, not only for the experience. But it helps with the sun when you are walking around in the hot interior of this South American country. When you are out in nature and you arrive at your destination after a long trip you will find out that our rainforest has a special way to calm you down and help you recharge those batteries. Sometimes it is necessary for our well-being to disconnect from our everyday life and to remind ourselves that the universe is more than it seems. Especially when it starts to get dark and you can clearly see the bright and beautiful stars without any light pollution. The rainforest can also have its own ways to soothe and seduce you. As long as you treat it with respect, it will give you a wonderful experience in return. You might also be surprised at the amount of wildlife that you will see. It's like going on a jungle safari through the Amazon rainforest.
