Intercontinental hotel in the Dominican Republic

"Creme Brulee from the InterContinental hotel in the Dominican Republic"

Hello my dearest Story Time friends around the world, how have you been? Today I am taking you on a food adventure in the Dominican Republic.  For this food adventure, we are heading to the InterContinental hotel in Santo Domingo. As you guys know I was in The Dominican Republic for a conference on politics, economy, and technology as a Youth Delegate representing the beautiful country of Suriname. 😏 Now that was a great experience because I got to learn and grow a lot from it. This conference was held at the InterContinental hotel where there were guest speakers from different countries that have a lot of experience in the field of politics, economy, and technology. I didn't want to miss any part of the conference so despite landing early that same morning due to the flight delays I didn't want to sleep in and miss anything.  What I did was enjoy a warm bath in the gorgeous bathtub that they had at El Embajador a Royal Hideaway hotel and headed to the lobby. From the lobby, we were brought to the InterContinental hotel where we could check-in for the CAPP ( Centre for the Analysis of Public Policy)  conference. CAPP also had other partners with whom they executed this event.

But we'll talk about the content of the conference in another Story Time episode. In this Story Time episode, we will be talking about the food at the InterContinental hotel in the Dominican Republic. During the conference, we got served food. When it comes to the presentation of the food I give the InterContinental hotel an A+.

" Salad from the InterContinental hotel in Santo Domingo"

But when it comes to food, it's so much more than presentation. It's the taste, the experience, and the way my tastebuds feel after. Especially for Surinamese people. I have to admit that the highlight of my entire dining experience at the InterContinental hotel is the Creme Brulee. Not only did it look this fabulous but when comes to taste it didn't disappoint. It was certainly better than the Creme Brulees that I had in Suriname. The Creme Brulee wasn't too sweet and I loved how creamy it was. Highly addictive, so much so that right now I am craving some more.  Their pastry chef deserves a raise! I wasn't really a fan of the salad. It was a bit bitter tasting for me, and Surinamese people aren't really used to bitter things in their food. Something I have noticed Dominicans do enjoy, or that I assume based on the places I have been to eat. I don't know what gives it that bitter taste, but I have tasted it in other dishes that I have tried while in the Dominican Republic. So I passed the salad, I can eat bitter drops but with the salad, it was a no for me.

" Dinner plate with Chicken and Pork from the InterContinental hotel in Santo Domingo"

I don't eat pork so I couldn't have the pork that they served. The Green looking mashed potatoes had the same bitter-tasting sauce. So even that didn't make it to the finish line with me. I don't mean to sound rude or disrespectful to anyone's food preferences. But like I said this Surinamese tongue didn't really dig the bitter food vibes. That's probably because we aren't so used to it in our diet. I did like how juicy the chicken was. It cut so smoothly, and it was well cooked.

"Bread from the InterContinental hotel in Santo Domingo"

They also gave us bread with butter as an appetizer. The bread was fresh, flaky, and soft. I liked how you could taste butter on it without having to use the butter. The staff was friendly and didn't mind changing my order when I told them that I didn't eat pork or beef. When it comes to service they certainly do know their etiquette especially when it comes to setting up a dining table. I made a video for you guys of my experience during the conference at the InterContinental Hotel in Santo Domingo. I hope you like it and don't forget to subscribe to my blog when the Story Time U.F.O. pops up. The only downside of the experience was that they wouldn't give us as conference attendees the wifi password. Apparently, it's something they reserve for hotel guests only. I guess every establishment in every country has its own rules. In Suriname when a hotel is booked for a meeting or a conference everyone gets access to free wifi. Even when you just visit the hotel pools you can connect to their wifi. Either way, I had quite a memorable food adventure at the InterContinental hotel. It will go down in my memory as the first day I tasted bitter food, but at least the Creme Brulee made it all okay, and ended up saving my day! Until next time right here on Story Time.
