I tried wood seal carving!

Hold on to your space seats, because the story time U.F.O. is back at it again, zapping fresh stories straight from the mothership into your inbox! 🛸 If you’ve been following my blog or my ShachemLieuw YouTube channel for a while, you probably already know I’ve been deep-diving into learning Mandarin and exploring more about my Chinese heritage. Well, my latest mission involved signing up for a wood seal carving class, and I liked it so much that I’ve officially decided to purchase a wood seal carving kit and turn this into a permanent hobby! 🧰✍️ Fun plot twist: we didn't actually work with real wood. We got to practice on erasers! But it was still super fun learning all the traditional carving techniques. (For those wondering, the Chinese carving knife used for this is called an intou or bidao —often referred to as an iron pen or a graver!) The class went pretty in-depth about the history of seal carving in China. Historically, seals (or chops) served as powerful credential...

Story Time: Sunday brunch at restaurant " De verdieping" in Paramaribo

" Shachem Lieuw at restaurant De verdieping in Paramaribo"

Hello, my dearest Story Time friends from around the world, how have you been?😊 I'm glowing, as you can see from my picture. That's because I made up my mind a long time ago not to let my light dim, no matter what challenges I may face. This picture was taken in a restaurant located in a popular tourist area. The restaurant is called " De verpdieping", which is Dutch for the floor. When you arrive at this restaurant, you will understand why it's called that. The verding is located at Kleine Waterstraat, number 1. It's on the first floor, right above the popular TV. Across the street, you will find Tangelo from Torarica, where we had our latest Story Time breakfast adventure. For this brunch 😋, I went out with the boys. I like having a balance in life when it comes to the people I want to keep around me. For our brunch at the restaurant "De verdieping", we had to make reservations in advance. When we arrived there, I couldn't help but admire the view. This Surinamese restaurant is situated in a lovely, open-air spot to start your morning, offering a picturesque view of a popular area in Paramaribo.

From their balcony, you can see Torarica resort, Tangelo, and other places that have already been featured on my Story Time blog. So, make sure to subscribe when you see Story Time U.F.O. pop up on your screen. That was, you can show me all the support and love that I need on my content creation journey. As usual, I made a video about my brunch food adventure in Paramaribo for you guys. But let's dive into the food first. After all, that's what the foodies are here for.👀😋

This brunch was part of a promotional deal from the restaurant "De verdieping".You can purchase the brunch deal at a reasonable price if you go with a group of people. We went with a group of 4. I liked the promo they had. It's an excellent opportunity to spend time with friends or family members and have fun. Once we found a lovely table in the restaurant, I ordered a cup of cappuccino. It had cinnamon powder on top, which gave it an extra delicious and sweet kick. Since we had reserved in advance, our brunch arrived promptly.

The first thing to arrive at our table was these cute, fluffy, funfetti-looking waffles, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles.😋🤤 They weren't bad, I did like the one from Tangelo better. But for the price, these waffles were great! I liked the thickness of the batter. Even the powdered sugar on top of it blended well with the waffles. It wasn't too sweet, making it a great dessert treat.🧇🧇

Not long after the waffles arrived, our plates made their way to the table. Our brunch plates consisted of: a breakfast burrito, which was voted everyone's favorite on the plate.😋🌯🌯 Bruschetta, I liked these biscuits with the topping that was spread on top of them. A loaded Hasselback potato, grilled breast chicken, and macaroni salad.🍽🍽

The loaded hasselback potato was topped with a nice layer of cheese. The chicken breast was well seasoned and cooked. Overall, we had a delicious and fun time eating our brunch with such a great view around us. Even the appetizers were yummy. In Suriname, they are called kip soesjes, but in English, they are known as chicken profiteroles. If you ever happen to find yourself traveling through the streets of Paramaribo, I recommend visiting the restaurant "De verdieping". Have fun watching my video, and u! Until time, right here on Story Time. I have many more food adventures to share with you, so stay tuned. 🥘🍲🥫😋
