A Paramaribo Foodie Adventure At Tori Oso In Suriname

Story Time: Paramaribo foodie adventure at Tori Oso

" Mooi Uma burger and Parbo bier from Tori Oso in Paramaribo"

Hello, my dearest Story Time friends from around the world. How have you guys been doing? As usual, I'm back with another foodie adventure! This time we're reviewing a popular local restaurant in Paramaribo that's called Tori Oso. By the way, to my fellow Surinamese people, happy Keti Koti! In Sranang Tongo, the language all locals speak means the chains are broken. Today, on July 1st, Emancipation Day is celebrated in the Republic of Suriname. But I'll tell you more about that in another Story Time episode. So make sure you subscribe to my blog when you see that Story Time U.F.O. pop-up on your screen! 🛸👽👾That way, you'll be the first to get my Story Time adventures zapped right to your inbox! On this foodie adventure in Paramaribo, we visited Tori Oso on a hot afternoon. Tori Oso is located at 76 Fred Derby Street. On their Facebook page, it stated that they open at 4 pm. However, it's better if you arrive at least an hour later. When we arrived, the Surinamese cafe/restaurant wasn't quite ready to open yet. But that didn't stop my determination from getting my hands on one of those juicy, famous Tori Oso burgers! I waited it out and came back when they were finally open. I can already tell you that it was worth the wait! When you're sitting at Tori Oso in Paramaribo, you get to experience the Surinamese atmosphere, music, and food that's elevated with a modern twist.

I love the freedom of speech text that they painted on their building. Especially since I am someone who believes in the importance of freedom of speech, or else I wouldn't become a writer.😂😛I had a lot of fun making this Story Time episode, despite the windy day in the city of Paramaribo. That is just what helped cool us down in this hot tropical weather. However, the first thing I ordered to help me gain some relief from the Caribbean/South American climate I live in is a Pina Colada. This Tori Oso Pina Colada isn't any ordinary one. Tori Oso has elevated its flavor with a Surinamese twist by adding dawet to it! The idea is simply genius! 💡 Creativity is evident in the dishes brought to the table. We also ordered an Amaretto Sour. The Amaretto Tori Oso cocktail has a more pronounced lemony flavor and is refreshing. The loaded shrimp fries caught my attention! Shrimp, cheese, and fries? 🍤🧀🍟 I simply couldn't resist the urge.

As you can see in the picture, they don't skimp on the cheese and shrimp at Tori Oso Paramaribo! The dish was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. It tasted like more, but this is undoubtedly a side dish that you can share with friends. They also have chicken and bacon options for the loaded cheese fries available on the menu. For our main course, we ordered three different types of burgers. The burgers from Tori Oso are impressive. They've dedicated a lot of thought and skill to creating their burger menu. Most of the menu items have names written in Sranang tongo. As I explained before on my Story Time blog, Sranang Tongo is a language that all locals speak. It came into existence during slavery. From different locations in Africa, slaves were brought to Suriname by the Dutch West India Company and sold to plantation owners. Suriname was rich in coffee, cotton, cocoa, and sugar plantations. To communicate with each other, the slaves created a language we now know as Sranang Tongo. This language evolved to become a second spoken language for Surinamese people. We speak Sranang Tong better than we do Dutch in most cases.😂 The Sranang Tongo has influences from English, Dutch, Spanish, French, African, and indigenous languages. Now that you know more about Sranang Tongo, I can help you better understand the burger names. I ordered the Tap A Dek burger. In Sranang Tongo, "Tap A Dek" means on the road. The Tap A Dek burger I ordered with a side of wedges. On the inside of the burger, there was a juicy chicken patty and a couple of big shrimp. My friends ordered the Mooi Uma burger and the Tiki Burger.

All the burgers we tried were excellent, but the one that looked the juiciest and was the most impressive was the Mooi Uma Burger. Fun fact in Sranang Tong: "Mooi Uma" means "beautiful woman." So you're looking for Paramaribo's finest and juiciest lady, go to Tori Oso! Our stomachs were filled to the end of our Story Time get-together, the Surinamese way in this country, one with a cold glass of Suriname's finest Parbo beer. We toasted our glasses as we look forward to bringing you guys along on many more Story Time food adventures! I love showing you guys what it's like in Surinamese restaurants as we roam through the beating heart of the Amazon rainforest.😍😎As usua,l I made a video for you guys to help visually experience the adventures that I write about.📹📸🎥Due toof some technical difficulties with my lapt, op I'm a bit lath sharing this post.
