Deep-Tissue Massage From Han Palace Story Time: A Self-Care and Wellness Journey in Paramaribo Hello friends, your favorite Surinamese pen pal is back with another Story Time episode! This time, we're going on a self-care and wellness journey right here in Paramaribo. After a long week of work, my body was crying out for a massage. So, I decided to spoil myself and headed over to Han Palace . It seemed to be my lucky day! They were running a special deal: a 15% discount on any massage worth over $50 between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. They also had a sweet perk for anyone getting a massage after 6:00 PM—you got to take home a lamp! The owner showed me pictures of other clients who'd picked one out, and he was kind enough to spoil me with one, too. I went home with one of the biggest lamps they had—it was almost as tall as me! While I waited, I admired the traditional Chinese jewelry they sold, with pieces made from beautiful beads and authentic jade. Soon enough, it was time for...

Visiting Rio's Food And Walking Through Paramaribo
Hello, my foodie friends, how have you been? I'm back with another adventure from warm tropical Suriname! This time, I'm taking you to Rio's Food. They are a popular breakfast spot for most working people in the area. Rio's Food is located on the Koningstraat (King Street in Dutch), right across from Kirpalani. This restaurant offers a wide variety of Surinamese cuisine. On their menu, they have bread that you can try with popular Surinamese fillings. I chose a bread filled with chicken liver. You can also buy Bami, Nasi, Pom, and other popular Surinamese dishes from Rio's food. On certain days, they sell fish eggs in Massala! That's one of my favorite things to order from Rio's food. If you find yourself traveling through Paramaribo and want to try the local dishes, Rio's Food is the place to be. Some of their dishes are so local that you can't find them on restaurant menus. These dishes are mostly homemade by Surinamese natives. However, that's where Rio's Food differs from other Surinamese restaurants. I love that because it makes it easier for foreigners to access and try the authentic flavors of the Surinamese kitchen. They also sell dinner, but keep in mind that Rio's restaurant isn't open till late at night. After I had my breakfast, I'm taking you guys on a short walk in Paramaribo.
We're walking down Dr. Sophie Redmond straat. A popular street in Paramaribo, where we pass the office of the Vice President. I found a bottle of Esteller in the store, and I was surprised at how well they nailed the taste, considering it's a bottled product. Esteller is a popular Javanese drink that is almost like a dessert. The sweet drink contains fruits and cornstarch balls. It was very refreshing! If you're visiting Suriname and you see Esteller in the store, get that! Especially if you have a sweet tooth like me. 😊 I also found some delicious Strawberry milk. These days, I'm leaning more towards the Strawberry flavors. Hey, I have to keep things interesting for my tongue! Are you planning on taking your taste buds on a flavorful trip? Check out Expedia! As usual, I made a vlog of my day in Paramaribo for you guys. I do enjoy sharing what life in Suriname is like! It has made blogging a lot more fun for me. There are many things that people are unaware of about this South American and Caribbean country. I plan to explore with you on my Story Time blog. If you don't want to miss any of my stories, make sure to subscribe when you see Story Time U.F.O. 👾👽🛸 pop onto your screen. Alternatively, you can simply click the follow button on my blog, and you will be the first to receive updates via email. When we got home, we were hungry from the walk, so we decided to order some food. Ride Eats is a Surinamese app that allows you to order food from all participating restaurants. You can download this app from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. We decided to give Wolly's a chance. I ordered from Wolly's Latour, but they didn't have any drivers inside. Thus, the order was quickly denied. I tried again and ordered from Wolly's Coppename Straat. This time, it was a success, and our food is on the way. 🛵😃 We ordered a Wolly's chicken burger with cheese, a cheeseburger, and the famous shawarma patat. That just means 'shawarma and fries' in Dutch. I uploaded some videos of that on my YouTube Shorts, and someone commented that the shawarma with fries looked gross. Well, my friends, in Suriname, looks can be very deceiving. Since the food delivery arrived on the motorcycle, we received the sauces separately. I forgot to make a video of what it looks like with all the sauces on top. However, I'm fairly certain that you can find the Shawarma from Wolly's in my previous Story Time episodes.😆 The Shoarma Patat from Wolly's is one of their most popular menu items! It's what their brand is famous for among locals. The fries are topped with peanut sauce! Let me clarify that, Surinamese Peanut sauce. We don't do the nasty peanut butter version! Our Peanut sambal is made from fresh ingredients and involves the real deal. The sweet, crunchy sauce is a favorite among Surinamese people and is often paired with various meat dishes. Sometimes we even put it on top of our noodles (Bami, a Surinamese-Javanese dish made with noodles). If, by this point, my Story has made you crave the flavors of my country, it's a sign for you to join the Story Time trib. Enjoy the video, guys, and until next time. 😋
What's you're favorite Surinamese food? Please let me know in the comments, and that might become our next Story Time subject. Lots of love from the tropical South.
