Hello, friends. I'm happy to be back with another Story Time episode, right here in the warm, tropical Suriname. As you read in my previous blog note, I just turned 31 on October 29th! I spent my birthday at Houttuyn Wellness River Resort in Suriname. When I first decided to take my blog in a different direction, this was one of the first hotels in Suriname that I approached for an interview. It took me almost two years to get my blog monetized after that. I'm so proud of how far I've come with Story Time productions! Thanks to the support of my audience, I'm able to blog more frequently about the things I love! Most of the time, it involves food and travel.😍 My life in Suriname can often get hectic. A significant portion of my free time is dedicated to the social work I do. But in the future, I hope to find a better balance. That way, I can share my adventures more often. There are still many stories that I have yet to post. I went back to Houttuyn Wellness River Resort to personally experience what it's like to stay at this Surinamese hotel. Normally, when you book a room at this river resort, you're supposed to check in at 3 pm. However, because I had misread the information about my massage booking, I thought I had arrived early in the morning. At 8:00 am, I was already on the road. Houttuyn Wellness River Resort is situated in the Wanica district. As I mentioned before in my blog, Suriname has 10 districts. On your way there, you'll notice many Surinamese companies hard at work. I took some photos to share what life in Suriname is like. It didn't take long for us to arrive at the popular Surinamese river resort. It was only when I arrived at the reception desk that I realized my mistake. 😒😤But hey, they do say that everything happens for a reason! I managed to find relaxation right beside the Suriname River. It's a pity that the grass was a bit high; otherwise, the view would have been even more breathtaking. I almost fell asleep on one of the beds next to the pool. Sorry for the hotel guests who had to watch me drool. 😂🤤 I guess that happens when you pull an all-nighter. I was so excited not to miss that massage appointment. It was a gift from a friend. Thanks for hooking me up, girl. 💓 Any, with it seemed that when I arrived at the resort, they were just starting breakfast. Normally, you'd have to pay an extra $15 to join breakfast in a situation like this. But thankfully, the staff was understanding and took pity on us. So we got to sit in at breakfast. Compared to the breakfast that I had during my last hotel sleepover, this was certainly a delightful upgrade! Shiver on the inside as I remember the bread with sardines for breakfast.😰😨😫 I got to drink coffee beside the Suriname River. This seems to be one of my favorite things to do in my country. I've drunk coffee beside the Suriname River, from the deep south to the north.😍😎 I must admit that the atmosphere at this resort is truly relaxing. For breakfast, I started off with a salad. It contained lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. The dressing was next level though!😱🤤 Compliments to the chef! The sauce packed flavor into the salad. We got to pick from 3 dishes to combine with our bread. You were also allowed to choose your bread. I chose brown bread for my first breakfast at Houttuyn Wellness River Resort. As for the bread fillings, they offer 3 choices. You could have bread with egg, which I didn't feel like having for my birthday breakfast, to be frank.😒 It's a good thing that they have options at the restaurant of Houttuyn Wellness River Resort. You can also choose between smoked fish or "Iwa Malem", as we locals like to call it, and shawarma chicken. I chose the Iwa Malem, and Stew opted for the shawarma chicken. I tasted both of the bread toppings. The shawarma chicken had strong flavors from its seasoning. Out of the two, I prefer the smoked fish. Its flavors weren't too overwhelming for my tastebuds, and each bite made me crave more! We also got a bowl of fruit and some pancakes for our early morning meal. I topped my pancakes with chocolate syrup!😋🍫 I loved the pancakes and the roasted fish tasted amazing.😍With a full stomach I went to rest on one of the lounge chairs. Once my food went down, I went for a swim. At Houttuyn Wellness River Resort, even if you arrive before your scheduled check-in time, you are still allowed to use the pool. In the background, you could hear birds singing as I marveled at the beauty of this natural, wooden-themed hotel nestled amid nature. At 2 P.2 received the message that we were allowed to check in earlier to our Midi Cabana.But that's for our next Story Time Episode.
