Greta And Humbert

It was the beginning of the new year in Spooky Town. All the mystical beings that inhabited this hidden part of the world were still hung over from last year's party. But for Greta and Humbert, the party had only started. The two lovers had eloped from their previous home and moved to Spooky Town. From where they were from, it was unthinkable for a vampire to date a shapeshifting zombie. But that didn't stop these two from falling in love. It all started when they signed up for a scare class. Greta wanted to go out into the world and scare the life out of humans for a living. A dream that she had in common with Humbert, but for different reasons. Humbert his mother and his father were murdered by humans in a Transylvanian castle. If it wasn't for his uncle Count Cecelius, he wouldn't have made it out alive. His mother had told him to hide in the dungeon. Back then he was just a child. His uncle found him in the dungeon and they made a quick escape. When Uncle Cecelius told him that his parents were murdered he promised himself that he'd never fear mortals again. Instead, he would take joy in making them run and cower with fear.  Greta on the other hand, just enjoyed spreading fear. Each time she had made someone's heart skip a beat, she got this psychopathic laughter of joy on her face. Something that Humbert found incredibly cute. The first time he saw that psycho laugh, it was the first day of scare class. They were seated right across each other. In the center of the room, there was Professor Mormogia. Although he looks like a human, he is actually a werewolf. We had to sit around him in a circle because he liked being the center of attention. " Welcome newcomers, I'm Professor Mormogia. Today I'll be the one who will be teaching you, your first scare class. In the coming year, you'll be pushed beyond your limits. But at the end of the ride, only 5 students will be selected to enter the human world. You will scare as many souls as possible in the build-up to Halloween. By collecting the fear from their souls, we'll have enough energy to open the portals of our town. That's when all of us living here can go out there and show the humans what Halloween is really about.". The entire class applauded the professor his speech. He even ended up howling because of the hype-up.  Werewolves can shapeshift into humans, but their instinct is easily triggered. It's the weakness that reveals their origin.

"All right scare monsters settle down! Before we get to all of that, I want to see what you got. Today will be about testing your raw talent. Let's see if you really deserve to be here, or if you guys are just a waste of space.". A big door appeared behind the professor. It magically ripped through our world from thin air. The wind blew the sand and dust around us away. " May I introduce you to the dream portal. This little friend you'll be seeing a lot. Today each one of you will get the chance to go through this door. We'll program this portal to land in the dream of an easy victim. Your job is to torture and or scare them. These souls aren't angels, they have a heavy conscious. If you pass this class and get access to the human world your victims will be the cruelest souls walking on the planet. Some of these people are murderers or have committed other scandalous crimes. That's why you must put your heart and soul up for the challenge. Keep in mind that scaring the humans that spread fear in the hearts of their own kind won't be an easy task. Some of these humans might be more creative, or passionate than us. But that's what all this training at the Scare Academy is for. On the other side of this portal, a teenager is entering his dreams. This young man has a record of vandalizing, lying, and stealing. He doesn't even spare his own family. Tonight Pumpkinhead and Pumpkin Reaper, you get to be his conscious. The two brothers laughed and high-fived each other while screaming "All right" out loud at the same time. The Pumpkin brothers are the sons of the famous headless horseman. Rumor has it that their mom is a scarecrow. My uncle told me that they had met in a pumpkin patch while hunting for humans on Halloween's eve. They were both licensed Scare Monsters and immediately kicked it off. Since then they have been hunting together. I've never met their parents though. They haven't set foot in town for over a hundred years.  Right now they were living everyone in this classroom dream life. They get to be in the human world all year round having fun stirring up all those mortals. The Pumpkin brothers were probably doing this to be reunited with their parents. I can only imagine all the damage the entire family can do if they get together in the human world. Pumpkinhead was short but had this glare of evil on his face. His eyes were fuelled by the fires of hell. I only knew that because he kept bragging about it in the hall before class started. Pumpkin Reaper on the other hand was quiet but big. His muscles spoke for him. There was this mysterious air to him. My vampire instincts knew right away that he was someone you didn't want to play around with. The two boys walked to the middle of the class. Pumpkinhead opened the door and the brothers entered the dream world. When the door closed behind them it disappeared. In its place, a hologram appeared that showed us exactly what was happening in the dream world.

Jeremy was walking into town. There was not one person or moving object to be spotted around him. It was as if time stood still and he had the entire world for himself. When he walked by the Ice Cream parlor he noticed a shining bicycle. It was the one he always wanted! On top of that, it was in his favorite color, red. " This must be my lucky day!" the boy screamed out loud with joy. He took a pocket knife from his backpack and picked the lock. The chain dropped to the floor but before leaving James walked into the Ice Cream shop. No one was here either. He took a few scoops of free Ice Cream in all of his favorite flavors. On, each scoop he added different toppings and sprinkles. When he got on his bicycle he decided to go home and hide his new bike in the basement. He made a turn at the chapel and that's when he came across the beast. He couldn't believe his own eyes when he saw a giant pumpkin monster attacking the city. A bunch of rolling pumpkins with flaming eyes were destroying the buildings and cars that got in their way. " Is this why the city is empty today?". The monsters were headed in his direction. He turned his bicycle around and began paddling for his life. But the beasts were catching onto him. Suddenly everything around him became dark. The sun disappeared and nighttime had taken over the sky. It was pitch dark despite all the burning buildings that James was cycling by. The only thing that was clear to see, where the monsters chasing him. The Pumpkin Reaper picked up Pumpkinhead in his dream form and threw him onto James. He was squashed with the bicycle under him. On the ground, the blood flowing from his body was mixing with the pulp from inside the giant pumpkinhead. That's when James woke up screaming. When he realized it was only a dream he looked down and saw that he had pissed his bed. The portal door reappeared in the classroom and Pumpkin Reaper came out followed by his brother Pumpin Head.

The classroom cheered the boys on until we heard this maniac laugh. When I looked across my desk I saw that it was Greta. Her laughter gave the entire room chills. You could tell that the horror show was incredibly amusing for her. When I heard that laugh, it was the first time my heart began beating in over 600 years. I knew from that moment that she was the one. My vampire instincts weren't very subtle about it. When she stopped laughing and stared at me, I blushed and accidentally turned into a bat sitting on my desk. The entire classroom broke out in laughter. But I didn't care at all! Their laughter faded behind me and I stared at the zombie girl flipping her hair.
