An Unexpected Adventure to Santigron

Hello, fellow adventurers! Welcome back to another travel tale. My journey continues along the coast of South America, and I am still surprised by how much of my own country, Suriname, I have yet to explore. One by one, I'm checking these places off my bucket list. While some of my adventures are planned, most of the best ones happen spontaneously.

As an entrepreneur, life often pulls me in directions I never expected. Despite being an introvert, my work has led me to meet so many people from different places. Launching our company has been a journey with both highs and lows. The beginning is always filled with hurdles as you struggle to build a solid foundation. There are moments of doubt and anxiety where I wonder if all the investment, time, and energy are worth it. But I quickly brush off those fears and remind myself that we can't let them hold us back.

I'm getting older, but that doesn't mean I've stopped living. I've learned to treasure every moment and every experience. I remind myself of all the things I've done that people said were impossible and all the strength it took to face each challenge. All those past experiences have shown me just how strong I am. The more you level up in life, the bigger the hurdles become. I'm not the type to back down from a challenge. Some people shy away from embracing their inner power, but why deny the very thing that has kept me going? In the game of survival, you learn to trust that gut feeling. It was that gut feeling that encouraged us to take a leap of faith and put everything we have into this business. We may not have a lot right now, but when you sow the seeds, one day you will reap the fruits.

One day, a client asked us to provide services in Santigron. I had never been there before, so I took the opportunity to go on a road trip. Fun fact: In the Surinamese language, "Santigron" literally means "sand ground."

When we arrived, my phone battery was empty, and our client was kind enough to let me charge it. I asked him if there was a river nearby. It turned out we were close to the Saramacca River—a river I've written about in a previous adventure. It's strange, but I can always sense when a river is nearby; the air just feels more humid. Even though it was a scorching hot day, the breeze by the river was cool and refreshing. We enjoyed the view for a few minutes before continuing our journey.

Time waits for no one, and soon we were heading back to Paramaribo. On the way, I enjoyed the scenery of tropical flowers and trees lining the roads. We stopped at a store, but it was closed. Outside the city, stores don't always keep the same late hours as they do in Paramaribo. In the city, you can find a Chinese supermarket open until 10 or 11 p.m., or even later if you're lucky. Outside the city, however, shops might close for an afternoon break or just for the night.

I created a vlog of my first visit to Santigron for you to enjoy. Stay tuned for more travel adventures in tropical Suriname! I hope to write to you again soon.
