Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname

Beni's Christmas Palace In Suriname Just like in the photo above this text, I am okay but I am not completely okay. I feel awful on the inside and for a long time it was difficult to find the motivation to return to blogging.  Tomorrow's Christmas, so I mustered all of my strength to at least finish another episode. I've been gone for a while because as usual, life got hectic. But this time in a bad way! As you guys know a while ago I started a company in Suriname. Most of my days were spent creating Story Time episodes, working, doing social work or going along to get a taste of the field.  When we go to clients, sometimes I get to see awesome places. Or in between on our journeys we tend to make pitstops. This Story Time episode is supposed to be about my visit to Beni's Christmas palace. But let me tell you about what happened after that first. Just so you can understand how my Christmas spirit, transformed in the energy of mourning. People see the good, but I'l...

Dessert from H&T Gomper straat in Paramaribo noord

Story Time: Oreo cheesecake from Lucky Twins and dessert from H&T Gomper street in Paramaribo Noord.

"Shachem Lieuw in H&T Gomperstraat Paramaribo"

Hello my dearest Story Time readers from around the world, how have you been? As usual, I have been one hectic bee. It's a good thing I am the good kind of bee. The sweet one, just like the honey bee.  Speaking of sweets, do I have a story to please your inner sweet tooth. Today we are exploring the streets of Paramaribo to scavenger hunt for some delicious treats. In dutch we say "Straten" when we refer to streets.
As you know because Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands we speak dutch as our main language. But other languages are also spoken in Suriname. Most Surinamese people tend to be bilingual. In school, we learn English because we are a part of the Caribbean. Don't forget to visit my Story Time Merchandise page for some cool Story Time in the Caribbean merchandise. Don't make the mistake of underestimating Surinamese people with their bilingual skills. I have personally experienced how that is a mistake many foreigners make. One time I was in a zoom meeting, with different international people. I got out of a break room early and man were they gossiping. Just because they thought I as a Surinamese person from a native dutch speaking country would not be able to understand Spanish. Desculpe! But in Suriname, we also learn Spanish at school. Our teachers said that because we are a part of South America and we are surrounded by Latin countries it is essential for Spanish to be a part of the curriculum. I guess they were spot on with that one. And even if you meet a Surinamese person that didn't pay attention in class, I still would not recommend underestimating our language skills. We are so used to interacting with each other cultures that we know a lot about each other's cultures and languages. I like to see myself as a Queen that loves exploring this country and getting to know its people. For one weird reason or another faith has given me such a life story that I get to be blessed enough to meet the right people at the right time. Even the people who hurt me were meant to be in my life for a reason. They brought along with them valuable lessons. They thought me things that were very important to know in my personal development. Without that piece of wisdom, I would not be able to embrace my crown the way I now do. Now that I am almost 30 I embrace life with love. Even with the challenges that I have faced, I welcomed them as experiences that were necessary for my growth. I guess those self-love practices are slowly but surely paying off.  It's like a passive investment in yourself that pays over a million times more in the future. Check out my self-love articles if you are willing to accept some of my help and advice on that. My gift of being very understanding has made me passionate about self-development. No pressure though, when it comes to self-love we are all zen. It's really about making your own choices, that add value to your overall well-being. In dutch I  like to nag the Surinamese locals about " Welzijn en welvaart!". That is a part of my personal vision as a leader. Man do I wear different capes in society! " Welzijn en Welvaart" mean well being and prosperity. They are the foundation for Quality of life. But that might be for another Story Time. I bet you are more curious about the Oreo cheesecake from Lucky Twins. Lucky Twins is located at the Gemenelands weg. It is in the same building as Ice and Candy I have good memories of writing that Story Time edition.  Lucky Twins is a very famous restaurant in Suriname. They are well known for their Chinese food, good interior and of course the sweets. They have all kinds of yummy and delicious treats. This time we went for the Oreo cheesecake, it wasn't bad. But I liked their cherry cheesecake, tiramisu, and chocolate cheesecake better. When you are in their building you will see that they hung the different kinds of money bills that we had in our Surinamese history on the wall. By the way, if you as a tourist are enjoying jour vacation in Suriname right now. As of today $1,- equals SRD ( Surinamese Dollars) 27,74. During this extra hot tropical summer, I have noticed a lot of tourists coming to Suriname. After the pandemic lockdown, I can understand why most people just want to take a break right here in nature. Paramaribo Noord is a popular shopping area, not only for tourists but also for locals.  There are a lot of clothing stores, supermarkets, markets, shops, and different kinds of businesses located in the area. I was looking around for some clothes because I need to attend different kinds of events. ( I have a hectic social life for an introvert) when I spotted this new restaurant right next to Julia (clothing shop) in the Gomperstraat. The white building with the Asian umbrellas and lighting got my attention. I decided to give it a try. Once inside, I found out they had the same snacks, cakes, and desserts that Lucky Twins has. They also sell food like pasta, fries, burgers, shrimp, steak you name it. For this visit, I didn't have any of their food. It's after all a sweet tooth adventure! Instead, I had a look at their milk tea menu! Yes, it's also another boba spot in Suriname. The milk tea with Boba trend has swept all over the country in these last 2 years. I ordered a honeydew with milk foam tea and boba. I love honeydew! It's really one of the flavors I am obsessed with.😍😍😍
The mochi also caught my attention. I decided to give it a shot, so I got the oreo chocolate mochi! I can tell you that it was worth every bite! It has become my favorite so far, because of how delicious it tasted!😝😜.
