Walking From Plantage Frederiksdorp To Johan & Margaretha

Walking From Plantage Frederiksdorp To Johan & Margaretha

" Fawaka," my Story Time friends? In Suriname, that's our way of asking "How are you doing?". It's a popular Sranang Tongo word. Sranang Tongo literally means "Tongue of Suriname," and this language is spoken throughout the country. Invented during the era of slavery, this language incorporates influences from Spanish, African, French, Portuguese, and Dutch languages. It was a language that the slaves who came from all parts of Africa created so that they could speak to each other without their masters understanding them. Now, this language has been adopted by all the diverse ethnic groups living in this part of South America. It's a part of our identity because, no matter where our ancestors came from, Sranang Tongo united us as people. In today's Story Time episode, I am taking you guys on another travel adventure in Suriname! Our travel plan takes us to the district of Commewijne.

From Plantage Frederiksdorp, we walk to another plantation. This time we are going to Johan & Margaretha. Usually, you can rent a bicycle and visit the nearby villages. But that will set you back a couple of Euros. One of the reasons I enjoy sharing content about my country with you is to show people that traveling to Suriname doesn't have to be expensive. It all depends on your desires and what you are willing to settle for. Since I'm a cheapskate, Plantation Johan & Margaretha is just a 1 km walk away from the hotel, so we decided to walk. 😂😁I promise you, I'm not the only one! My cousin was actually the first one to bring up this idea. 💡 In Suriname, you'll notice that most places work with Euros. That's because a large part of our tourists come from the Netherlands. Due to our History with the Dutch, Suriname has remained a favorite retreat for these vacationers. We were once a colony of the Netherlands, and as the only Dutch-speaking South American country, you can imagine why our jungles are a haven for relaxation and peace.😅 Just as the sun was setting in the sky, we started our walk. It didn't take us long to arrive there. The village is tiny, but there are some stores and warungs available! If you don't want to spend too much money at the hotel, walking to Johan & Margaretha is an excellent option to help you save money on your trip. The food and drinks are a lot cheaper here than at the hotel. Besides, it's always good to support and try local food. 😜 There is an ATM in the village, but it appears to have been outfitted with order forms. I believe that Suriname has the potential to grow its tourism industry. However, the government should be willing to invest in and create an infrastructure that makes it easier for tourists to access cash. I wrote an article about that a long time ago, but I haven't had the time to finish it yet. Recently, I've noticed a lot of tourists complaining about how difficult it is to get cash here. Especially if you aren't from the Netherlands, since most of our financial infrastructure is meant to cater to those tourists. Even at the hotel in Plantation Frederiksdorp, not all cards are accepted. I read somewhere that they don't accept Visa as a payment method. Of course, I'll be highlighting these details in my upcoming blog posts. Even if it takes me a while to finish them.😂😁What can I say? My life offline seems to be more hectic than you can imagine! However, I am doing my best, and in the end, the result has become Story Time Productions! That is something I am incredibly proud of. In Suriname, most of our ATMs are not operational for at least 80 percent of the time. Even locals struggle to withdraw cash from their local banks and ATMs. That's why I recommend always carrying cash with you when traveling to this beautiful tropical country. Depending on your Mastercard or Visa, it's a risky gamble, and even when you find a way to access money, those transfer fees will make you cry.😂😂 I made a video of our walk for you guys. Let's go and explore the small village on the plantation Johan & Margaretha on a weekend. We hung out there for a while because it turned out that my cousin practically knew half the village!😅That's how I noticed that it gets a bit crowded at night. There aren't many people living here. But those who do seem to come out at night. But before we get to that video, don't forget to subscribe!👽👾🛸 By becoming a member of my Story Time tribe, you'll be the first to receive my adventures and exclusive content in your inbox.😉😏 You might get buckled in; I'm planning to end this blogging year with a big spectacle 🎇🎆.
